i'm a newbie here.. very interesting forum to discuss. btw, is it ok to ask about whereabouts in Kuantan can I get cheapest dot4 ori windscreen for e60 520d? ANy help is greatly appreciated. just got my windscreen stone chipped this morning when driving to work..

Between 4dot and 5dot is it only differences on the in-built tint? If we are going to apply tinting anyway; then what's the difference?

The price itself justifies for a very good tint to be applied for the 4dot/5dot screen

The difference of DOT is actually the windscreen manufacturer's registration number. Each manufacturer will have a specific registered DOT that's being stamped onto the glass. Mostly BMWs uses DOT#24 or DOT#25 which is the original supplier supplying it to the factory for BMW car assembly. Where as the rest could be companies from China/Taiwan as the aftermarket options.

Thinking whether to go with 4 or 5 dots as the difference in price is huge and both are still laminated, the difference was told would be the tint/UV incorporated into the screen.

I think after I read the site; the dot24 and dot25 is the manufacturer; but the 4dot or 5dot at the bottom right of the windscreen refers to the windscreen type by each manufacturer. Correct me if I'm wrong in this.

If not mistaken original lowest spec windscreen is around RM2,000. With rain sensor it will be more expensive

I just replaced my windscreen to a 4 dots; done all things by Dr. Windscreen with my insurance claim, inclusive the tint of Huper Optik, replacement was fast at just a tad over 2 hours

RM4500, Sam was kind enough to ensure my windscreen replaced to my original spec; all rubber replace; and even the rear windscreen rubber attached to the boot lid; then I have the choice to choose whatever tint I wanted

yes, insurance claim without tint yet. According to them, Windscreen with UV is 3k++

I did replace the windscreen & tinted too. My coverage is 4k, my windscreen cost me 2600 and my tinted cost me 600, 3M tinted (good quality one), so, I submit claim myself. Get back 4000. I earn back my 800. Windscreen insurance payment is RM600 for 4k coverage, I still untung RM 200.00. I replace windscreen first, get the receipt, then send for tinted screen, get 2nd receipt, combine 2 receipt and submit for claim, that it... If u ask windscreen shop tint for you, don't know which type of film they will use...

They called the accessory shop next to dr. Cermin and ask them to do it. BTW , its not the super duper type tinted , but the basic one.
