Hi my auto GB is not changing gear to 3 and 4... I only can use the first two gears. Can anyone rectify what's the problem? When it reaches the required speed to change to gear 3, no gear will be engaged and the engine "check" light comes on. So i manually shift to gear 2 and drive.. Only gear 1 and gear 2 changes. Some say overhaul gearbox and some say ECU problem..

Bro, your problem similar like mine. Last time, i'm also faced the GB failure. What i did was,
do the refurbishment for the GB and its cost me about almost RM3K.

Anyway, pls introduce yourself first at newbie session and our sifus can direct your problem
in detals. Tq.

B33M3r,

could be one of the solenoid that sits under the ATF pan which might had burnt off ...

only a mechanic can tell you wants wrong. all we can do here is guess. but its a well know fact the e36 gb has to be rebuilt at around 150,000- 200,000 kms.

i've never done any gearbox re-built till the end of my engine life which was clocked at 260K ..the only thing i've done was a regular yearly ATF change ...

i believe GB life highly depends on your driving style and your regular preventive style ...

some love to drive it hard at most of the time and neglect the preventive maintainance schedular ..that's when you'll face all sort of problems ...

mine already clocking 220k... alhamdulillah without no issues, just annual flushing/changing
