Hi Guys,My 2004 e60 525i battery flat today because I have not drive it for nearly three weeks. I think the battery is still OK but it just need the jump start. Is anyone know if I could actually use any car/ portable battery jumper to start my BMW ? I believe the Idrive will need to be resetting, is that right ? How much it will cost? Thanks,

You can use jump start cable and connector from the front bonnet positive connector and ground (any grounding points). There's no need to reset i-Drive, just program back your air cond, radio settings, etc if it's lost. Nothing serious and doesn't require you to spend extra money.

This has happened before at the garage and my Idrive got many errors after the mechanic jump start the car. Instead of that the service indicator on Idrive all came out negative. Then, the mechanic used a computer machine (he told me this is an expensive machine with BMW licence) to restore the Idrive to come back as normal in two minutes.

Now it happened again but this time at my driveway. I just wondering if I need to send the car again for resetting ?

What are the errors you are referring to? If sensors in the car doesn't report error (it's not faulty), why would i-drive have many errors? Is yours LCI or pre-LCI? If I remove my battery, leave it for 10 mins and then plug it back on, nothing needs to be reset. The only thing that goes missing are simple stuffs like my fuel consumption, mileage trip, etc.

Just for the update. My car is working as normal now after jump start. There was a strange error before but its all gone after I left the engine running while idle for half an hour.

Thanks anyway.

I'm glad it's working fine now :) Sometimes we need to be careful with these mechanics as some of them will really give silly reasons just to make money from us.
