I had nothing on my agenda on Saturday morning so decided to call AB Sg Besi if they have their new 3 GT available for test drive. Got a lucky break since they had one for the day. :top:So went there around 11am and looked at the 3GT on display while waiting for the test drive car to be prepared.First thing I noticed was the 3GT looked better than the original BMW effort in this niche, the 5GT. We still need some strong drinks to make it seem beautiful but overall most of the weirdness of the 5GT is gone. The front look aggressively nice and the rear looks ....acceptable.

Then I checked the inside and was surprised. The car was HUGE! Imagine that after adjusting the front seat to accomodate my tall frame, I still have a 4 inch clearance from the back seat rear to my knees. Bigger than similarly adjusted 5 series and close to the 7 series limo. The boot was quite huge too, I think can place a few golf bags lengthwise and this was before putting down the rear seats down. The rear tailgate opens up and closes automatically, a bit slow to my liking. My test drive car was in a very nice dark blue color. It was a 328GT, which was appropriate considering the bulk of the car the engine has to haul.

Seating was slightly higher compared to the saloon but the seats were very comfy and well supported, much nicer than in the F30 or in the F10. Also it had lots of legroom and no major hindrance in the knee area. Really liked it. Three of us got in. When I zoomed off, I noticed the engine on this car was very, very sweet, much better than the 328i I tested sometime back although they are using the same engine. Acceleration was effortless and consistently smooth till redline.

Very nice again.Tried my normal rempit style driving and the car accomodates to certain degree. The feel was lesser than a F30 and the steering less precise but the handling was still superb for a car of this size. Acceleration is 6.1 sec to 100km/h equal to the smaller 328i saloon. The car is CBU and at around RM348k. Overall it is a very good car for those who need more space and comfort than the F30 or even the F10 currently offers. Will be very useful for the shopping or the balik kampung trips.

I drove the 428i gran coupe over the weekend

Was rather disappointed. On paper it's around 6s to hundred but felt slow

The turbo lag is terrible in normal mode, in Sports mode, it's still there. You can count "one and" before it kicks down and goes

Road noise was loud and the sound system was anaemic. Muddy sounds and poor bass

I wanted to try the M sport but it was a display car. That has the Harmon kardon system

BMWs are getting it soft!!

Anyone tested the 3GT Diesel?
think softer F30. the ride height is higher.

should still feel like 320d but softer and more comfortable.

The 320d GT does not make financial sense when you take a look at the spec sheet. They should have priced it approx. RM20k cheaper to match the F30 320d. The price gap between the F30 328i and 328i GT makes more sense.

Totally agree that it should be priced cheaper. Add a little can get pre reg 520d.
