battery light

Hi all,While I was driving from jb to kl this morning, the battery light suddenly comes up, and now the headlught also came up on the obd. What is the possible failure??Still cruising slowly, don't dare to off engineShould I drive to workshop immediately? Or can wait few days?

Your alternator already finish it live span. 2 types of alternator for e39. 3 pins(RM1400) and 2 pins(RM850) .

Yup. Drove close to 200km, finally stop by senawang toll after seeing the obd all indicator gone.
Mine is single vanos, so 1.4k for new, 550 for potong

Got lots of useful info from this archive thread.
Sympton almost similar, battery light first, then headlight light, then abs & asd, then gb down to 3rd gear, then board started to dim, till finally all out.

Now waiting to be tow.

Funny thing if I turn the key now, the indicaor light all came up, but can't start

This is due to your battery out of current. Once you put the new battery or recharge the battery all lights will gone. Replace alternator is very easy, even you can change yourself. Just only need less than 1 hour to do the job.

BMW is a very a sensitive car. Any lights that show for warning sure showing the error which log by the system. If shows ABS light meaning it will lose of ABS function. Brake pad lights only meaning out of brake pad. Other than these lights on better stop and call for tow truck.
