Hi all.........my aircond system have gave me problems yesterday. Its started when I refill aircond gas at one of 'kampung aircond repair workshop'. My aux fan suddenly spin at very high spin nonstop. What I did is do my research in this forum and very fortunate to find three possible solution. First, check your heat resistor in case it fail to send the right signal to aux fan to spin at what speed. But then, some our fella forummer said heat resistor has got nothing to do with aux fan. Heat resistor only respond to blower under the dashboard. Second, check your thermostat whether it is ok or not. In my case I suspect something that got to do with gas pressure. Once I do a more thorough research...I found an info that BMW aircond system should be fill with exact amount of gas. It cannot be less or over fill up. If over fill up then it will caused higher pressure which then will cause aircond to malfunction and only blow warm air. Higher pressure will also caused aux fan to spin at maximum speed continuously and in some cases it spin nonstop even if we switch off the engine. This problem if not solved properly and immediately will escalate to many other problem. for instance it may caused your battery to flat and many error code will appear. So what I did is release some gas from the system manually and it is ok immediately after that. Thank you to all sifus......sharing is caring.

You would need the aircond gauge to check the gas pressure. Unless you have this guage, you may be releasing the gas blindly.

my e39 is also facing this problem. the fan sounds like a jet engine if youre outside and can get embarassing sometimes. its meant to be a quiet car!

any idead

Bro,i suspect your fan clutch..if the fan does not rotate fast enough, the aux fan should turn in either 1st or 2nd speed to lower the operating temp..i hv experienced this, my temp gauge stood still at the mid point but the engine was very hot. Found that the aux fan did turn at the highest speed and to my relief, it was my fan clutch which was turning slow..replaced it and no more such issue since then..i might be wrong but i hope this helps.

bro thanks for the advise. did you just do a trial and error and get it replaced or is there a way to further investigate? how did u manage to find out?

Yup, like u said..i pressure tested the system and found some leak at the radiator and a loose bleeder nut under the radiator..i patched the leak and tightened the screw..poured in 2 bottles of toyota coolant with mineral water but the temp still shot up. My final guess was the fan clutch. It should spin fast and it depends on the engine pressure..i managed to block the shroud with an old slipper and it was confirmed weak..i ordered it from bomin for less than 300 and that solved everything so far..i am a happy man..again, i might be theoretically wrong but this is based on my predicament..my aux fan hardly turns now, the front hood is warm instead of hot..

Bro JFT,

My car also like kapal terbang sound (aux fan spins fast), need to check the fan clutch as per your advise.
