Auto specialists should be able to do it.... it wont be cheap.... probably lots of custom work e.g. brackets, hoses etc. I know EHAutolink can do it cause they offered option to me.....

LATEST UPDATE - went to EHAutolink to do ATF change etc. on Saturday. My bad.... their advice is to change every 25,000 km and not 30,000km as I might have stated here....

guys usually how long u guys take to service the gearbox?? or take how long to overhaul the gear box??

change and flush the AFT oil.. about 1 hour. Change also the ATF filter and AFT after every 80k.. Dont do anything if there is nothing wrong with the g/box..

willie, could you give the history of the works that you have done to your g/box.

describe the sympthom, mileage clocked. it would help us to find out what the problem with your gear box. Repairing or overhaul the g/box is expensive to do. Try to avoid as far as possible.

initially the gear box a bit hesitate to go up from 2nd to 3rd gear(i think, not sure which gear), just like when the engine is cold, the gear box tends to stay at lower gear..... whenever it shifts up from 2nd to 3rd gear there will be quite a "voilent" jerk..... that started for about 2 months..... i experienced few times of slip at 2nd gear one day.... then last week it stays at 2nd gear only, and keep on slipping ( at 2nd gear, when press the gas, the engine RPM just goes up like in Neutral)....

if only bmw msia markets out their range of manual tranny bimmers ere (cept than those ///Ms), we can do a flush anytime we wish! E46 manual is such a rare breed ere, sighs .....

your problem is just what I have a few year ago.. The gearbox just seem to stick at one place and refuse to shift when it was suppose to.

Try to do a modic test on it. If there are no error message register, then I can say that your problem is due to the worn out contact for the gear shift positioner. It would cost about RM150 to RM180 to replace it.
