Did the mechanic use the recomended ATF for your tranny? Is it a full change(flush) or just a partial change?Originally posted by willie@Oct 6 2005, 10:35 AM
talk about the devil guys, i just changed my transmission fluid when i did my last engine oil change, and since then i feel that my transimission not really smooth, recently i got experience that my gear box stucked at 2nd gear....
I think that is your problem due to different fluid mixture. Try getting it flush 100%.Originally posted by willie@Oct 7 2005, 08:20 PM
it is a partial change i think, mine ride is E36 318i, yr 1999, i changed the transmission oil during my last engine oil change, which is about 10,000km back at about mileage of 170,000km....
my mechanic said that my gearbox required a auto repair kit, not sure what was that.... he said it about 3000+ , max 4k including labour fee blar blar blar..... somemore i changed my radiator electrical fan yesterday......

Use to involved in AT (Auto Transmission) rebuilt programme for Perdana V6, found out that all V6 AT unit failed because of AT fluid (ATF) brake down due to high temperature built up in the unit (sudden acceleration/deceleration is the cause for ATF temperature built up).
Furthermore if the unit is not service regularly, metal debris will clog valve body, causing it to slip/knock when upshifting/downshifting. AT technician told us that ATF should be replaced at every 20k km, while ATF filter is every 40k km (this apply to V6, not sure for BMW thou).
But then again, our BMWs have ATF cooler to cool down the ATF.... unlike the Potong cars in which you have to retrofit one....Originally posted by Jipster@Oct 10 2005, 08:49 AM
FYI generally speaking its the heat of our climate that kills autos.....
PROTON also have ATF cooling device, it's underneath the radiator, but is ain't enough to cool down the oil in our climate. Test driven a V6 with scanner show that ATF reached 125 - 130C during hot afternoon on highway driving. Fitted an additional ATF cooler had made it dropped to between 100 - 105C  .Originally posted by flash@Oct 14 2005, 11:18 AM
