Guys ,Would appreciate your advice .I am thinking of upgrading my ARB but not sure which one will work best on my E36 328i . H&R , Eibach ..?presently it's on bilstein "yellow" shock + eibach springs .Found that it's also starting to create some noise when tuning up slope especially on multi-storey car park . Any solution ? will foaming the chassis work? any idea to get rid of those noise will make the car even more enjoyable to drive . The rims on my car are M-Contour which I am thinking of setting it up with 225/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear . Will the 245 fit the rear side ? :D it's friday again !!

8080 dude,

'noise when turning up slope' - more detail would help e.g. is it a clunking noise, scraping noise etc. ....The description of the noise will help the sifus here 'guess' what is wrong with your car....

'choice of arb' - the ones you mentioned will all work fine, they are all quality kit .....try and determine the stock size of your arb - any size bigger than stock will yield improved results.....in this case the bigger (than stock) the better .........very generally speaking of course........also get the ones which are adjustable and come with their own quality PU bushing......if you are obsessive, there are kits which come with special arb mount reinforcement kits which prevent the arb's from coming off their mounts during hard cornering......if you are pre-disposed to driving the nuts off you car such a kit would be worth looking into....

BTW...PU ARB bushes by themselves are a useful upgrade from stock .....so if u are running arb's with standard rubber bushings and change over to PU you WILL feel the difference....and i dare say the difference will be a positive one.....cost effective upgrade if u are not too much into flat out performance etc....

'E36 rim/tire size' - sorry cant comment ....i'm an e30 driver.....

Thanks man .

the noise sounds like the chassis moving when the car is " twisting" when negotiating the bend when going up the multi-storey car park .

And maybe all the bush on the car needs to be changed as the ride is a bit noisy when going over upeven road .

talk about un even roads , it seems like our local road resurface contractors does not seems to know their job . never a smooth road after they dug up the place .

if only we are in highway haven " the autobarn " .

The anti-roll bar will increase the roll stiffness and roll balance of your car. If you buy a good one (well-known brands - H&R, Eibach, etc), you will feel an improvement in handling. This is because these companies do development/tuning on the car. Never buy anti-roll bar just for one axle, always buy them in sets. If just from one axle, you will lose the balance, either the car understeer or oversteer.

I'm using ACS ATB currently and now having problem with the bushing for front and rear. I believe the bushing is very hard to get now in the market as i'm using 30mm diameter for front and 26mm diameter for rear. Thinking of using the custom made but don no where to get it.

Last few weeks went to elegance auto to ask about the bushing but the guy told me the bushing for ACS ATB can tahan life time maybe the previos owner tak jaga. In that case, I have to change to original ATB for the meantime.

HARTGE... I'm planning to go to PENANG to meet you.

ARB bushes are wear and tear items, even the PU ones. i'd just get the brand that will be easier to get bushes for. in this country, that's usually eibach. plus u already have the eibach springs. going with eibach ARBs might prove to be a better match. :)

i guess ... for me UUC feels great ....

As for the bushings ...can be obtained via internet

cheers :D

8080,

creaking noise is quite typical of e36 328 of that age, including mine before i fixed it.

it's the sound of the chassis flexing.

can u pin point where the noise is coming from? front, rear, left, right, dashboard, etc.

your options :
1. get it welded; most decent bmw specialist workshop will know what to do here
2. if it's coming from the dash, it's probably flexing where the A-pillar joins the body. the workshop can fix that
3. foaming would probably help further. am about to go for it myself. check out the foaming thread under the chassis forum. organising a group buy there...

Fellas....try Hokomoto in Batu Caves.....if i remeber correctly he has a bunch of those PU thingies in various sizes ....he may have the ones u looking for....they are Super Pro brand apparently made in Oz....

But as Redd mentioned....get a well known brand and chances are the bushings should be available either from the ARB manufacturer itself or some afetr market manufacturer e.g. powerflex, super pro etc.

IMHO PU bushes should not deteriorate....thats the whole ratioanle for using them in the first place.....so the car maintains its set-up longer.....stock rubber bushes would breakdown in time and therefore will not be able to maintain a certain suspension setting/set-up foras long as PU .....a case of 'setting sudah lari lah beb' :)

Justto be clear, changing to brand new rubber bushings should also bring near to mid term benefits before it starts to break down.....this is a cheaper alternative.....but if the ARB bushes are only a hundred or less bucks per front or rear I think u shud just go for PU :D

BTW....PU bushes sometimes squeek.....make sure supplied lubricants are applied (sometimes white coloured cream thing)....

Just some thots thats all....

I believe it's the chassis flexing . it usually comes from the back right portion ( C pillar section ) .

The idea of changing all the bushing on the car is on my mind for quite some time .

the question is , how many units of bush needs to be replaced .

If I am going to upgrade the Anti-Roll Bar , the bush i am sure wouldn't be the same size with the standard version .

Does the new ARB comes with all the necessary bush ? And are they standard rubber or PU .

Back to the noise of chassis flexing , welding sounds pretty major but I will ask about it on my next service .

Any idea what will the price range like for a set of front and rear Eibach ARB ? and PU bush ( if the special grease are applied during installation , will the squeak comes back after some time ? )

Welding is actually a minor and quick job, and costs around RM200-300... and the improvement is felt immediately...

next step for me is foaming...
