aircond hot air after driving a while it turns cold

Hi Guy ,For past two days , when start the car and on the aircond its blowing hot air but after a solid 20 to 30 min drive than only the its COLD . Any idea why ? have anyone experience this before ? Is the a compressor issue ? please advice ? Regards

Check the gas pressure first.

If gas is enough, check the aircon pressure sensor. If sensor is faulty, it will also prevent the compressor and the aux fan from cutting in. what about your aux fan it is also running?

also same time try looking at ya compressor and see if the compressor clutch is engaging or not ..

jus went to naidu bawah pokok and he said the compressor faulty need to change . The pricing he gave

1) compressor = 1380 ( DENSO ) japan made .
2) filter + workmanship = 320

Is this expensive ? please advice before i send to him . Thanks

i think naidu's price are one of reasonable price amongs workshop...

His say compressor is gone . Never reply told me about clutch thingy but he said that your compressor has oil inside so its confirmed compressor mulfunction . Can naidu be trusted ? Since first time i m going to him . Please advice . Thanks

ive refer to naidu twice for my aircond prob. yes he can be trusted. but for parts u can source outside 1st
can get cheaper.. for example he diagnose my radiator fan is gone... quote me +/- RM 1200 for the fan. i go ask a few sparepart shop and the price is RM 900 without installation . also u can get an OEM part at RM 500.

im not saying naidu charge more for the parts.. its just my opinion as consumer..

Opinion based on my experience :

1. Compressor clutch can be repaired/replaced. I did that on my Citroen compressor sometimes ago. Cost me about rm300 few years back in Ipoh.
2. If compressor is not functioning, you will not get a cold air even after 20 - 30 minutes. I guess you symptoms happen if you leave your car not running for 1 or 2 days or you park under hot sun. Try to rev your accelerator for a while after you start the car with the aircond on. Do you get cold air when you do that? You do not have to wait 20 -30 mins to drive to feel it. My guess if you rev you car in free gear for a while, the compressor will kick in. Try this first. Mine is like that. I can live with it for a while till I find a better solution.
3. Pressure Sensor ? (nor sure how much)
4. Clutch fan? About rm300+

When diagnose. go for cheaper option first like refill the gas (rm30) and see whether the symptoms change. It could be other problem like leaking. Aircond will not kick in if pressure low.

I've been diagnose the same problem on my e39 and asked to change the compressor but I did not buy it. See how it goes first. Kindly share your experience. I may be wrong. No harm to try and tested. After-all we want to save our money too.

Thanks for all the update really appreciate it . Yes , finally i cannot tahan and change the compressor after Naidu said its confirm compressor faulty . Now i have already change and he gave 6 month warranty , the air-cond perfectly good . No issue , its cold and so far so good .

Air Cond Inconsistent

Need advise, my aircond works well in the morning and in the night but not cold when it is on a hot sunny afternoon?

What could be the problem?

I was thinking to send to Naidu to do the following:-
1. Full Service including a complete service on cooling coil and remove dash board
2. Rectify outside smell coming in to the cabin, suspect flap not working
3. To rectify my temperature control switch not working

Any idea on the breakdown cost please?

I guess you symptom is something like what i describe in my reply before. Try to rev the accelerator for a while and see whether the cold air comes in.

For the smell in cabin its indicate coil problem as well. Naidu should be able to tell and use his leaking tester.

Another issue could indicate that the way BMW compressor being design which I read somewhere where the compressor is being design to de-compress when not being used for sometimes or when left not running is hot condition. According to them to preserve the life span of the compressor. (that is why when we rev for a while it build back the compression....I think so) But then we are not like in Europe where they do not get extreme hot weather. Perhaps it has to do with how the sensor being set based on Europe weather if UK model. Perhaps change the sensor first and filter will solve the issue instead of change the whole compressor.
