My E39 air cond works well (in fact sometimes too cold) when on the move. However, once stuck in a jam or start stop traffic, the air starts to warm up. Sign of insufficient gas or worse, could it be symtoms of a gradually failing air cond compressor? Would appreciate if anyone who has experienced this can share.

Sound like just the elec fan (near the radiator) is not working. I believe your engine temp is up higher also when you trap in traffic jam

Geoffreylee, my engine temp remains the same when stuck in a jam. This only happens only occasionally. For instance, this morning while idling for some 15 minutes waiting for a client to arrive, the air-cond did not disappoint me:) I have checked the air cond filter (the 2 filter on the top left and right side of the engine bay right?) and they are clean. Would check the electric fan when I'm free to go to the workshop.

Blackhowling, so what action have you taken to rectify the prob?

jes visit naidu behind epf pj there's a shell station there he is..................he'll solve eveli problems wit minumum charges

Bailey, you mean this naidu fella specialize in air-cond prob? His location is quite near me. Based on your intro, I may pay him a visit. Will quote you:)

Grand...

Since you mentioned Naidu place is near yours. Can you help guide me how to get there. A Map will be great.

yeah he's expert in bmw a.cond as ive fixed watever problems wit my E39 & wifey E36............he did excellent jobs guys

Geoffreylee, sorry I don't have the map nor know how to draw up a map with computer:eek: But from the description given by Bailey, let say if you are driving along Federal Highway from KL towards Klang direction, after passing by Angkasapuri, when you see EPF building, just take the left ramp up, then turn left. Shell is just on your left hand side. BTW, I'm just giving you the direction based on my mental note of that area. Haven't got time to pay him a visit yet.

You are spot on! Once at the turn off from EPF, FIRST left turn and then a RIGHT turn, he is behind the SHELL...... good luck guys!

Again on the air cond thingy. Was just doing routine check up within the engine bay this evening. Notice that the 2 big rubber hose connecting the 2 air cond filters on the top left and right corner of the engine bay were not securely fastened. The other end of the big hose which connect to another outlet at the firewall also appears to have loosened. Manually used my hand to push the hose to close up the said gaps. Hope it would not lossen up so easily. Would make it a point to always check these connnections whenever possible. Also suspect that hot air from the engine bay may seep in through these gaps into our cabin. Although the air would have nevertheless been cooled down when it enters the cabin, the smell from the engine bay may somehow seep thru. Wondering how much does these rubber hose costs?

Grand, some UDM spec have heater incorporated in the aircon. Our country do not need heater unless you plan to go to the highland all the time.

You can bypass the solenoid valve and remove the solenoid all together. This will stop the hot water from going into the air-con AHU. BTW, the solenoid valve is located just below the fuse box for an E36.

I Just Changed My E39 Cooling Coil Last Few Months When I Have Same Symptom Like Yours. I Changed The Electric Fan Too. Now Everything Is Fine. I Can Feel Very Cold Even I Only Switch On Minimum Air Setting On Digital Air Cond Panel With 16 Degree.

1st maybe ur gas is leaking,,,could nt ur fans,,if fan even when u ride it will be warm 2,and e39 hav cut off fius if any faulty wiring there...my suggestion is ur cooling coil is leaking or compressor,, or even the bearing faulty..prepare for @less rm500,wish U LUCK regards tq d

Hi, all, finally sent my E39 to Naidu last week. Told him the problem as I have posted here i.e. air cond fan may turn off when stuck in a jam. Although sometimes i can bear lil bit of the warm air, in the long run, would not be good for your engine as without the air cond or auxiliarly fan running, you may risk overheating. So left the car there from 1pm to about 5.30 pm. He suspected faulty air cond sensor (that how he called it). Ordered a new sensor, installed it inside but problem still persist. Then he turned his attention to the wiring and the pressure switch. But problem still there. So at the end, all he can say is to ask me to come another day to let him have more time to check.

As for me? Well I found a way to turn on the air cond fan when stuck in a jam. Just change gear to neutral, rev up the engine a bit for a short while, god bless, the fan turn on again and air become super cool again. At least it works for me. Talking about old car symtoms, ha ha.

I own 320i E46, and I'm having some problem with the aircond. The aircond has been on and off. To explain it further, once i started the engine, the aircond was working ok, but sometimes, it does not start and there was no air coming out of the aircond vent, and sometimes after a while, the aircond came back to normal. Kindly assist if anybody is having this same problem, and I truly appreciate your advice. I hope members can also propose BMW aircond specialist for me. Thanks

rozaini, have you change the microfilter before. If this filter is choked, all flow will be reduced and will cause the ahu (air handling unit) to freeze up. the ice will blocked the air from flowing.

BTW, did you notice any cracking sound when the cold air returned?
