Last week a friends C230 was car jacked in KL, he had a tracking sys installed & they recovered the car in 1 hour. I don't know the name of the installed sys, but it definitely seems worth it.

It's called: Imob, from C&C... normally for Merc, but can install in other vehicles....

standalone one? can stop the engine also? man im thinking to get one also but my SA said will void the warranty :( damn even C class got optional for it :(

Security system that stops engine or some claim cutting fuel pump, allowing car to roll to a stop at the road side is very risky. The car may still stall in the middle of the road if the culprit does not pull off to the road shoulder. Some satellite tracking system provider will immediately dispatch their recovery team and tail the stolen car until it's park at a safe spot, say petrol station for refill, that's where they activate the stalling feature so the car will not leave the petrol kiosk.

The beauty of satellite tracking system is when u lose the car, u know where it has been and where is it located now. Then the "call center" will dispatch their recovery team that works with enforcement official (Police la!) to conduct the actual apprehension of the culprit, if necessary. Often, they managed to recover not only the "tracked" car, but along with other non-tracked car in the warehouse and bust the geng.

Yes, there is. All system also can. Just ask the installer not to tap power source from the fuse box, but only from the ciggy lighter and usually the gps transceiver is equiped with internal battery and its charged when ignition in "ON". No tapping of speedometer, no tapping of fuel pump, ignition coil or ECU. So cannot cut engine remotely. What matter is u can recover the car.

Ehhhh.... cannot tell u ma. If I tell u, then u not only want my car, u also want me to ride along with u to make sure I don't make phone call ma.. :p must keep low profile.. :p

The cheapest (me mah! :D) satellite tracking system u can find in town (don't compare SMS or friend-finder system la!) that I have researched is the one offered by AAM.

Seriously, we should not be discussing this here because our security at stake.. chao!.. and don't tell others u seen me here.....

astroboy, BMW doesn't recommend installing 3rd party tracking/immobilizing systems and don't offer one inhouse like Merc. Can you just confirm that you installed a 3rd party system and that it has no ill-effects on your electronics?

Local BMW have "shallow" knowledge in security system and certain security system brands in Europe already been working with them for decades and these security system experts know your BMW circuitry inside out better than your local BMW foreman.

Who do u think provide the system than can alert your service center on your car fault online the moment there's a fault signals detected by your OBC? Who do you think provide the technical know how on BMW network whereby one BMW can talk to another BMW on the road via your SatNav antenna alerting them slippery road ahead? They now call it Telematic technology. These are all many years of corroborative research done together between BMW Europe and some Telematic/security system specialist in this domain in Europe and yes, such brand is already in Malaysia and yet, BMW Malaysia is taking so long to work with them...

And such brand certainly is not called Captor la.. :D

BMW Malaysia is at the moment discourage installation of 3rd party security system in their warrantied vehicles for whatever reason. So whatever we do here, don't tell them and don't discuss openly lor... unless you have your contact in BMW AG lor.. :D

I know about the other systems but am not sure whether their recovery action is proven. BMWM is negotiating with a system provider but they ARE going about it very slowly. Their position is still that if you install a system now, your warranty is at risk, ie they can refuse a claim on the electronics.

I hope they're not dragging their feet because more lost cars means more sales :(

Hi Fuad,

In response to your question, my friend had I Mob installed, came as an option with the car from C&C. I was told that when the car was discovered, baterries were disconnected and some electronics ripped out...but they could still track the car....not bad. I called I Mob sometime ago, and was informed that a few brand new BMW owners have installed it over the last 6 months, no complaints so far. I am kinda worried about the effect on warranty though....

I just collected my 320d yesterday, and would like to install iMob (removed from my C class) into my new car...

I only worry about the warranty issues, thus would appreciate if anyone install iMob into their vehicles before without affecting the warranty..

TQ
