Hi all, I've searched high and low for clear cut answers, but everything I come up with comes out a shady gray :( I have a 92 525I that blew its headgasket. I picked up an engine (unknowingly that it was out of a 95 w/VANOS), dropped it in, and now I get a "no-start problem." :( I'm definitely thinking it has to do with cam timing because it backfires 3-4 times when attempting to start the engine. Is it possible to strip this engine of the VANOS or should I get a 3.3.1 DME and harness for a VANOS equipped engine? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

you can't use the 92 wire harness with the 95 hardware

you will need to change all of your wiring systems sensors plus the DME as the wiring codes and distribution are very different from 92 compared to 93 to 95

there could be a possibility you may even have picked up a double vanos which in that case , i cant be of much help
