528i 2012 or 2013?

I'm thinking of getting a 2012 or 2013 model 528i. Both cars has mileage about 50k or so. But I'm worried of some common problems I heard on a 528i. E.g. steering rack, Aircon compressor, etc. The salesman at AB recommended the 2013 model because the 2012 model is the 1st version of N20 engine. Thus, will have more problems at first. The 2013 has stabled down and has lesser problem. The price difference is about rm 50k between them. May I know if any of the sifus here can give me some of your advice?

If you have the budget then the LCI version would be a better choice certainly. How much is the 2013 model and you are getting it from AB?

Yeap. 2012 is rm 218k by AB. 2013 going for rm 268k. 2014 is about 305k by ingress. 2015 is rm 355k.

My thought is this. The LCI starts from 2014 onwards. Engine performance is the same except for some features improvement. And between 2012 and 2014, price difference is 90k. My concern is reliability issue. If all other parts are the same, then might as well I get the 2012 model. Unless the 2012 model is the 1st version of n20 engine which fails a lot more than the later batches, else I would rather save some money to prepare for repairs.

I'm not sure whether the 2014 comes with 5 years warranty? Basically if it's under warranty then you don't have to worry much. Forget about the 2012/2013 units if you have the budget for newer models (LCI). My 2 cents.
I'm looking to buy a 2015 unit myself.

Last I heard & subject to availability, a 528i M Sport LCI pre-reg in December 2015 going for 350k. Better get the LCI, no problems heard so far since reliability is an issue to you. Also, this unit should come with the 5 years warranty. Hence, peace of mind for 5 years. Now isn't that comforting?

There are 2 types of 5 years warranty. One is limited to 100,000 km, covers everything including wear and tear items while the other is unlimited mileage but does not cover things like wiper, brake pads, discs, etc.

Check the registration date of the car to know which warranty package it falls under. If the person is not a heavy driver and thinks they won't clock 100k for the remaining warranty period then that would be a more worthy option.

Most of these ones are registered 2015 before June so will be 100k km warranty and covers everything. Those pre-reg with 150km mileage are sold at 350k but carries unlimited mileage warranty.
