520d top speed - limited?

Hi folks,The max speed for the 520d is stated at 225 kmh, is this electronically limited?Took it for a long journey recently and the speedo was at that position for a fair duration even in sports mode and also tried downshifting as well?Anybody can confirm this?

Yes, the top speed are always electronically limited. You can try to bypass them with several methods which are available.

what top speed do u expect from a car with less than 200hp ? 250km/h??

u can hit 225km/h with a 2litre diesel is considered fantastic !

Its the combination of max engine power + weight of the car. 320d can go faster because it is lighter.

The Germans has a 'gentleman's agreement' to limit their cars to 250kmh.

True enough.same N47D20 engine on a 320d can go much faster despite the spec sheet speed limit of 225kmh.
250kmh is attainable although it will take a while.this case is true for the 3er though
Maybe the weight of the f10 is the factor.

yeap, tested 520d on mex highway and the top speed that i got was 230kmh. Seems like above 200kmh, the engine has no oomphh due to no power at high rpm (4000rpm).

All BMW speed limiter set to intercept at 250kph, including the //M. If the speed limit on paper for your BMW model is less than that, that means it's the mechanical limitation for the car and not the speed limiter.

The 320d top speed on paper is 231kph, my E90 N46B20 speed limit on paper is 215kph, but I managed to hit 230kph, but my Garmin showed much lower than that. Meaning, don't just rely on the on board analog speedometer, use a Garmin to double check your speed.

Tell u a field experience.. :4: if a Camry or Accord 2.4 still able to cucuk u, that means u haven't passed 200kph yet.. :wink:
