E30 M3 5-lug swap went smooth except for the E34 16x7.5 & 16x8.5 ET20 Hartge's not clearing the front calipers.........so a 3mm spacer later, and it fit fine. Went ahead and re-used my 225/45-16 Dunlop SP9000 since 245/45-16 tires were not to be found. Interestingly, and confirmed by Ryan S, the rear 8.5" wheel had tons of room between the inner sidewall and the rear springs/dampers.....an ET25-27 could fit easily and making more room on the fender lip side. Mine stick out a bit and I'll have to roll, but it looks very aggressive Still trying to sort my 750iL brake master cylinder, but hope to have that done by this week. My stock E30 MC has 3 inlets (2 front, 1 rear), the 750iL MC has 2 inlets (1 front, 1 rear).........an ABS thing, and my cab doesn't have ABS. Brake wise, the stopping power is much better but the stock E30 Master Cylinder is just not up to snuff, so it's a littledodgy.I'm still searchin for original Hartge centrecaps, so any leads would be appreciated.....until then I'll have to keep using the custom ones with the Roundel (which I don't really like). Anyhow, below are some quick pics. Nothin fancy, but it show's the brakes & the 8.5 rear wheels...I'm diggin the larger rotors....

urrrrrmmm....chris dude, pics not showing at my end.....is it just me or ......

Anyways, 5 lugs....thats a cool mod, extra kudos because you've done it with E30 M3 bits, perhaps the most ideal way to do it........sounds like a work in progress, keep us posted ok (with PICS!).....mod projects like these are the stuff dreams are made off :)

WOOHOO

cool mod!
great pics!

hey chris, mind lisiting what parts were used for this?
and cost

and more in-depth reviews :)

cheers
Tom

chris,

yup..that roundel doesn't belong there :D .....anyway, the wheels look great!!!!

alternatively, u can borrow my centercap and go scan the center logo alone at any one of the sticker shops...plenty in sunway. Get them print it as stickers....I asked last time, around RM80 for 4 pc (color)

Thanks fellas, and not sure why the pics "no workie" for some of ya....perhaps Roadfly was down at the time :(

Shaif: I may have a lead on 3 original ones in UK, but if that falls through then I may just ask Zoggee to be a pal and borrow yours for the day ;) Thanks for the offer :)

Tom: List is below pards....cost for the whole batch was US$700, but that was a great deal. Shipping cost another US$600 :( Don't know local prices for each part. FN condition from BMW would set ya back well over US$2000.

Rear parts from E30 M3:
- rear trailing arms (same as E30 but easier to just change whole thing)
- rear hubs
- rear rotors
- rear calipers, emergency brake assembly
- rear backing plates

**basically all you need for the rear are the hubs, but it's just easier to get the whole assembly from the trailing arms out**

**I re-used my stock cabriolet rear sway bar**

Front parts from E30 M3:
- front sway bar links
- front struts
- front hubs
- front rotors
- front calipers
- front backing plates
- E32 750iL brake master cylinder (not fitted yet since I have no ABS)

**I re-used my E30 control arms since they are the same as early E30 M3's, only the later model got aluminum control arms...........anyhow, all 3 are identical for fitment**

**I also re-used my 21mm front sway bar, since it is larger than the E30 M3**

**Lastly, I re-used my existing springs/dampers since I have the later model front struts, which are the same size as the E30 M3.....51mm**

**New pads were fitted both front & rear, and I had to replace one of the rear hubs with new bearings**

Everything bolts right up with really no problems at all. If you can find the parts and need better brakes, this mod is for you ;) Even with the undersized E30 brake master cylinder (not recommended) the improvement is very noticeable. I should have the 750iL M/C on w/in the next week.

***UPDATE*** I just got the brake master cylinder problem sorted. The E32 750iL M/C is a direct fit for folks with ABS. My cab does NOT have ABS so that M/C would not work since it only has 2 outlets (1 front, 1 rear).

Zoggee put me on the trail of a Mercedes W123 M/C and he said it would work, and that is correct. It is the same size (23mm) as the E30 M3 but is for non ABS system, hence it has 3 outlets (2 front, 1 rear). A little brake line bending is needed but that's it. Needless to say, the M3 brakes now feel incredible! Massive improvement!! Thanks Zog & Calvin!!

Damn.....pics still not showing......maybe its my server or firewall or something....if you could *smile* *be nice*..... could you post the url/link to roadfly..........please *grovel*

cheers fellas....really happy with the result, brakes are amazing, and I finally got to use the wheels I always wanted :)

Jipster, if you're getting red x's then just rt click > properties and you will see the url.

DANG!....its the damn firewall!....."Web-based Email is filtered"....and I'm not even surfing for porn this time.....nevermind I shall check it from home...thanks mr. chris dude!
