Hi,Just wanted to ask, how long does your front brake pads on the 323i LCI last for? Looking thru my iDrive, my car it tells me I only have 1800km left before the front pads need to be replaced. It is still under warranty as my car is only 10 months old. However, I am curious as the car has only done 13,000km so far, which means that the front brake pads last for only 15,000km???That's not very long lasting, is it? Considering that there has been no high speed runs, just used around Klang Valley all this time.So how long do your front brake pads last for?

Cannot be... I've clocked more than 35K on mine and computer sez I have around another 30K before the front pads need changing. Rear however needs changing in around 15K.

Stop-go traffic in the city like KL contributes to high brake pad wear.

But 15K mileage for front brake pad is still way too short. My mileage is about 80K now and iDrive indicates front pad still can last another 13K. Better get a mechanic to check.

I got mine changed..front n rear brake pads around 45k mileage region. i was driving dangerously cos the gap was about 1-2 cm. Dont trust idrive 100%. Get it checked.

you did a lot of emergency braking, 45K km can change already:motz:

Yes.. iDrive can't be trusted, its just a driver's aid. I check my pad thickness visually, to isolate iDrive's sometime erroneous estimates.

My 320i is 43k km now, and both front and rear pad sudah tukar liao. How many millimeter of pad u have left now? I know someone's pad wear indicator on iDrive still show 80k km left and the car more than 2 years old liao!

Whatever it is, the car still under warranty, so just send the car in for inspection and if I not wrong, with a balance of 1.8k km to go, they can replace your pad under BSRI now rather than waiting for another 1.8k km because its dangerous to drive with minimal brake pad.

Can also be a malfunction of the brake, DSC or what not and caliper refuse to release.

Thanks for all the replies. Will get it checked by service centre after Raya and see if it really is genuine wear or faulty idrive information. Update you all later. Cheers.

Don't trust the I-drive. Always do visual check. My rear was really thin, discovered while changing the rear wheels. I-drive says another 12k. Mileage was 49k so got both front & rear replaced by Ingress under BSRI

OK, here's the update. Got it checked and the verdict is that the front sensor was faulty. There was actually nothing wrong with the brake pads. What they also found was a cracked shock absorber top mounting same side as the faulty sensor. In the E90, the front brake pad sensor is on the passenger side only whilst the rear sensor is on the rear drivers side. I actually thought it is on both front and both rear brake pads but its not.

The service centre thinks that the front passenger wheel had a pothole impact that damaged the sensor and also the shock absorber top mounting. However, we don't remember the car ever having any pothole impact that can do this amount of damage, as it would have to be a very big jolt/pothole!

In any case, they replaced both the sensor and L & R shock absorber top mounting under warranty. Now the idrive says the front brake pads only need replacing in another 25,000km, which is more like normal. Even managed to get the car back the same day. Just a bit worrying that the shock absorber top mounting is so fragile that a pothole can damage it???

Someone is not honest with you.. jeng..jeng..jeng..

I was just relaying what the service centre told me.

Actually, I don't think it is a pothole damage at all. First, no one remerbers hitting such a pothole and the car only has two drivers. Secondly, how is it possible for a pothole to damage the sensor and the shock absorber mounting so easily without damaging the wheel rim or tyre sidewall? Thirdly, if there is really such a big pothole impact causing this damage, how come the steering alignment was not even knocked out? They did not have to realign or readjust the steering and wheel alignment at all.

I personally think it is a manufacturing fault during the CKD assembly. Who knows for sure, eh?:questionmark::questionmark::questionmark:
