Dear Bimmers,

I am a newbie here and I need your help to advice me price of original front brake pad and place recommended to change.

I just changed my rear brake pad for RM480 + Sensor for RM72 + Labour RM80 = Total RM632 before 6% GST - After GST RM670.

I feel it's a bit expensive. Need your advice on this and front brake pad because it's gonna due soon.

Also, can anyone teach me how to check / see / observe around how many % the brake pad is left?

Thank you very much and appreciate your help.

OEM or ori?

I paid 300 for parts (pads & sensor) with labor. Pads are OEM Textar & sensors are ori BMW.

Hi Wingzee,

How about Ori? Do you know the price or where is the best place to change it?

Thanks

Bimmer E90,

That's about the right price i paid for my replacements last month. 1 pair of rear pads and 1 sensor, both original. RM600+

Hi ahshawn,

Where you changed that? It's about the same price as me, how about front brake pad? where do you planned to change?

Thanks

If ori pads alone are about 400+ hence the price you paid is about right.

Thanks wingzee, 1 more thing, do you know how to check whether the brake pad is time for change?

And if use OEM (Made in Germany) like you do, will it affect the disc brake as the disc brake is ori disc? will it be slightly not suitable or use up faster?

Thanks

Err if you have iDrive if should have prompted you? Other check the OBD or visual inspection.

No issue for disc but some people said OEM's bite not as good as ori. Suffice for me though.

But if replace disc then better get ori as OEM ones always warp.

My E90 323 LCI prompted me on the I drive to change the front brake pad.but on visual inspection by the mechanic, it is still a long way before it wears off.So I advice the mechanic to program to a later mileage so that it will not prompt each time i start the engine. After a few days drive, it show 900km balance due for pads change. What can I do about this? Replace new pads and sensor even it is still good?

What is the estimated milleage left based on the visual inspection? Could be the sensors misbehaving - loose plugs or torn wiring.

E90 LCI brake pad sensors are non-resettable..meaning that if they are showing 900km balance eventhough you have sufficient break pad material, you may not be able to reset the sensor via OBD. You will have to change the sensors to new one's altogether and reprogram it, at least that is what I had experienced for my pad replacements.

E90 brake wear detection system works in 2 ways:

1. Through the count down of mileage based on a complex algorithm that takes into consideration of the drivers' deceleration patterns. This can be reset. I usually do not reset this when changing brake pads. I will only reset it when it pops up.

2. Through the sensor inserted into the pad. Only front left and rear right have them. Once the pad is worn, the rotor will scrub on the sensor and ground the sensor to trigger the alarm on our dash. Parts shop selling these at about RM40 a piece. Rear cost a tad more because the wire is longer.

Thanks to all for the reply, looks like that I need to change the brake sensor first and reprogram it.

Hi astroboy,

Understand it works in these 2 types, just curious, are there any difference in way of prompting in iDrive?

For example, it prompts me because my mileage is reached, but brake pad sensor still not triggered, then later on if it triggered, will the notification changes? How can we differentiate where 1 / 2 is prompted to us? Thanks.

Guys, just got the error this morning, mileage is slightly above 70k on 323i... think the rear is gone but the front looks ok still has some to go, can we just change the rear with the sensor only?

Thanks

The last pic is of the rear pads
Thanks

Hi All Sifus,

Do we have to change the brake disc when it is time to change the brake pads? I notice that my brake disc got thinner and it does make some noise when i stop the vehicle. does anyone know the brake disc price for both front and rear? Thanks
