Anyone knows the year that the above car is manufactured and the engine type. I need to confirmation of the information. Is it worth to get this model? Does it have a lot of know issues?I am new here. I'd like to introduce myself but could not find the newbie corner.

Hi Rookie,

Thanks for the information. I have post an introduction in the newbie section. BTW the interior of the images, is it same with the interior of E46? Is there any newer interior for newer E46?

hi bro,

i am not expert.

the rear lights, steering, dash, console, front lights(head lamp and signal), grille, fog lamps like similar to mine whcih is a E46 - 2002 - N42.

again as rookie said - you need the VIN number.

Cheers mate.

and if you are getting the car please make sure you have all the proper services records.

not putting you off - if the mileage is in the circa of 100K - brace yourself for at least 10K worth of replacements - bushes, valves, pads, arms, etc.

my friend just got one - but i believe it is the lifestyle model - with the front signal lights curved upwards - smaller fog lamps - tri band rear lights - multi function steering - 1.9L - 2003 - for MYR 90K++ with mileage of 90K++ but the car was owned by Tractors Malaysia - so there was full BMW service history.

again cheerio

devilsadvocate...thanks for the information. Do you know how much it cost outside roughly? I mean the one in the pictures which is similar to yours?

Nemo1,

Car prices can vary greatly depending on condition. So, price is not a reliable indicator of value. You can buy a cheap car, and it may turn out to be crap. You can buy an expensive, well-maintained car with full service record, and it may turn out cheaper because it saves you money on fixing it up.

From your questions, you are indeed quite new at this, no offense. Therefore, I would suggest caution. Buying the first car you see/try is probably not a good idea. This is hard for a newbie to resist because the car seems so tempting. Join some discussions here, talk to more people, and form a good understanding of the type of car you are getting.

Search the e46 section of this forum. You will find loads of info.

Best of luck in your shopping.

nemo and devilsadvocate your car is older than 2002 only 02 and up is facelift.. yours would be pre-facelift(pre-FL,98-01).

from the look of the steering wheel- maybe it's a 99..because i dont see any multifunction buttons.

better take your time to find one..very expensive to put right if you pick the wrong one.

full service history is a bonus.

if you buy from kedai- jangan kene tipu dengan 20k mileage on the odometer..can check real mileage when send for diagnostic

Thanks for the information guys, have been of great help to me in making decision.

E46 318, 2.0 Valvetronic...N42 engines - 143 bhp
E46 318, 1.9.....................M43 engines - 118 bhp

N42 will pay more visit to workshops if you are pretty unlucky!

Source : BMW specialist workshop.

I am a bit confused. Does it mean that 320 also have N42 engines? but the cc is higher?

The E46 320i should come with the M52 engine which is a 6-potter 2.0L engine. Again, all the information you are looking for should be revealed once you do a check on the VIN number.
