hi guys, which engine is better for e36 between 1jz gte or rb25det???in terms of long term use, spare part price, fuel consumption, incoming problem and etc.thanks for your sharing.

im using rb25 for my r34..no problems at all since a year. At least as sturdy as m42 in my pervious e36 318is (another good option for your e36). rb25det u have halfcuts from r32,33,34 dan stageas and also from people who are upgrading to rb26. Parts shouldnt be a problem. IJZ hacults from my understanding is cheaper due to lower demand compared to rb25det since a lot of cefiros want rb25. As for reliability and parts can comment much except for Its a Toyota. Prefer to keep German car with German hearts though if you ask me.

Having owned a RB20DET (I know, I know, not exactly a RB25) and a 1JZ, my vote goes with the 1JZ. A lot smoother and more fuel efficient.

bro Galaxy7.. please reconsider putting in a jap engine. this is BMW Club Malaysia.. plenty of sifus here to help you choose a BMW engine for your E36.

....hmm spare parts...fuel consumption..incoming prob... hmm hmm well...I'd say M43....heheheh

What engine is the car running now, and why change the engine? something wrong, or just itchy backside??

If u really want a jap heart, go for F20C.. hahaha... VTEC!!!!!

4 pot E36 good for the twisties... ;)

hi guys,
currently my car using M52B28 engine, my car is 328 1997 model.
lately my GM4 auto gearbox got problem, and i'm thinking to convert to manual gearbox.
after doing some survey, the price to convert is around 8k-10k. so i think better to change the whole engine since the cost is about the same. my car odometer is nearly 460 000.
i plan to keep my car for the next 10-15 years which if i downgrade to 2.5 engine i will save roadtax fee about rm800 a year and for 10years i will get back rm8000 the cost to convert the engine . also the 1jz or rb25 is more horse power than my current m52 engine and the engine spare part price is much lower. wat u guys think???

not too sure what's the current rate for this manual GB ...last i know it's fetching around 4~5K only ...but yet you may opt to buy one from overseas which may set you below the 5K mark ... including shipping to your doorstep ...just hunt around

328 and manual ...ummmmm :)

thanks iceman13, i'm still hunting for manual GB actually but i just dont know where to get it. some chop shops i went they only got auto GB only. hurmmm....anyone here wanna offer me manual GB huh??:top:

btw some questions here, can i still use my existing auto long shaft and rear exle for the manual GB???

well i don't think it is a bad idea if you are going 1jz if you plan to keep it for a long long time. the most important thing is to find a good mechanic to do the conversion. i am going to do it soon to my 318 so i may be bias hehe
