B33mEr Club Guest Joined Jun 4, 2008 Messages 3,448 Points 0 Sep 2, 2012 #2 For Diesel engine BMW recommends oil that is LL-04 certified which in this case it's Castrol Edge Sport 0W-40. If i'm not mistaken Castrol Edge 5W-40 is LL-01 certified which is meant for older engine.

Is it good to use 5w-40 or I also need to use 0w-40?
