Dear all gurus and masters,I am thinking of upgrading my standard air filter to Kudos Stealth Air Filter ( open pod) can refer to the link below:http://www.kudosbmw.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=kuw107&cat=14Just wondering has anyone here tried this before? IF so, hows the performance (any improvements), and how does it affect fuel efficiency? Any negative implications from using the filter?By the way, I am driving E36, 328i, 1998 model.Would appreciate all your advice and inputs. Many Thanks in advance.

If you want to improve the pick-up, acceleration... install it by all means! I have actually considered installing this until I found out aFe Intake for my E60.
what I know about installing an open pod air filter - "By removing your stock intake air box & replace it with the air intake, you are removing the most restrictive portion of your intake system, increasing both horse power and torque, improving acceleration as well as throttle response."
Of course, with that you can expect some slight increase in fuel consumption :D but then, it sounds like a beast when you accelerate... pretty sure it'll turn many heads thinking what car is actually passing by :top:

Installing just that alone might be detrimental actually. You really need a heat shield to reap the benefits (if any) of an open pod filter.

yeah.. agree! that's why I dropped my plan to get the Kudos Air Filter and installed a more expensive aFe instead :D at least it comes with a heat shield!

How is the aFe air filter? Can actually get max 4hp on butt dyno (the feel) or not as claimed on their website?

Well I didn't send my car for dyno but I can feel the difference whenever I step on accelerator :top: sounds a bit noisy but that's exactly the groaning sound I'm looking for :D
All I can say if the pickup and sudden acceleration has been improved compared to when I was still on my stock air box

Hey Guys,

Thanks alot for all your inputs, but how can I find out more about this Afe Air Filter? Is there any shops selling it in KL or Selangor? How much is it?

As for the Kudos Sealth Air Filter, is it possible to purchaser the Kudos Air Filter from the UK and then custom make a heat shield here in KL? Any idea wether this is possible and if so, how much will it cost for such customation of heat shield here in KL or Selangor. Any idea where do they customize such heat shield?

Many thanks guys, really appreciate it.

I like the grunt with Open Filters too :D :top: syiok

Did you get it locally or bought from States?

I bought this intake from the States :D
cheaper alternative compared to what you have to pay for Gruppe M :top: which easily cost about RM4k++!
I tried to look for this locally but couldn't find it... tried eBay but too expensive so I ended up contacting an authorised seller in US. The only mistake that I made was not asking him to declare lower value & mark the item as gift. I ended up paying 30+10% for the custom tax (this is the rate for buying car parts oversea)... so pls be wise. PM me if you want to know more ok?

I learned that trick (declare as gift at lower value) from a friend of mine too whose a regular scene in ebay. :D

a silly question... why this kudos of all the more popular brands out there? if hear wrongly sound a bit like sugus...

have you actually read this thread??? Obviously it's due to the lower price compared to other established brands :D
It only cost 50 British Pound excluding delivery... so it still cost less than RM500 all inclusive :top:
It cost RM4000-5000 for Gruppe M & RM1200-RM2000 for brands like BMC & aFe

got actually read this thread la but didn't check the link... so obviously did not know it's due to the significantly lower price compared to other established brands. keke

Hi Guys,

Thanks alot for all your commments, actually, I am having a friend who is visiting the UK very soon.

So out of curiosity I surfed the net to look for something to purchase from the UK. I came across this website and being unsure about the brand, hence I posted here to seek advice and input from all the taikos here.

Thanks again.

You can try to do this:- http://www.e39.co.uk/index.php?opti...unc=view&id=2020&catid=4&limit=6&limitstart=0

Looks simple enough. But I wonder what happens when you drive through a flood.

Salut

If just itching to get stuff from UK because your friend will be there and also the favourable exchange rate, i'm certain there are other stuff you can get for your e36 or other hobbies. For that price, worth a try but would still need other bits and pieces and you might not like the diy style end result, if fussy. Best if its what you're after first before opportunity to get it cheaper else you end up with all sorts of needless junk like me.

Check this out :D

aFe Intake Kit with Pro5R filter - E36 6-cylinder Incl M3, 1992-1999

aFe Intake Kit - BMW E36 6-cylinder Incl M3, 1992-1999
aFe Magnum FORCE Stage 1 Cold Air Intake System. This intake kit replaces your restrictive factory air box. It features a black composite/molded tube, 16-gauge powder-coated steel heat shield, trim sealed to seal out hot engine air, and a custom aFe brand cotton filter.

This aFe intake kit fits all 1992-1999 E36 chassis 3 series 6 cylinder, including:
1992-1995 - BMW 325i, 325is & M3 3.0 liter
1996-1998 - BMW 328i, 328is, 323is and M3 3.2 liter.
1999-1999 - BMW 328is, 323is, and M3 3.2 liter

This version used aFe's highest flowing filter media, which uses a lightly oil gauze to filter out dirt and particulates, while allowing more air to flow to the intake. For the best flowing filter, with the best performance gain, we always recommend this standard aFe filter media (often called "Pro5R ", which has a blue pre-oiled filter media). We also carry this filter in the "ProDry" grey filter media, which is oil-free for only slightly less performance and no maintenance.
