Hi,

its correct, if there is any water remaining in reservoir, must be problem is there. So check it out or else check whether any leakage in pump. Then you will easily find out the problem to solve. All the best.

Probably a leak where the reservoir mates to the pump. I had this on E30. Cleaned the rubber seal up abit and it helped. Ultimately start leaking again, ended up using some silicon sealant. :D

Want to share my e39 wiper water reservoir problem. Top up water and after a few sprays, OBC displayed "check windscreen water" or something to that effect. Mechanic found a small crack in the hose that is connected to the plastic refill cap. Tapped the crack with 3M tape. However after that, water won't go down into the plastic reservior. Upon further checks, mechanic found the overflow hose was blocked thereby created a air lock. Cleared the blockage and problem resolved.

I had two problems, reservoir appeared to be leaking and the spray is weak. One day I decided to fix it as it is a very easy job. I got a new camera as well so it's good time to test it at the same time.

New reservoir will cost RM150 but I bought a used one from a forumner, as not sure if it is really reservoir that is leaking.

On closer examination, I found that the rubber hose part that goes into the pump has hardened. When I try to pull out the tube, part of the nozzle came off as well.

No choice but to buy a new pump from Bavarian Auto for RM33 plus RM6 for a rubber seal. Detaching the reservoir is easy, just undo a screw and lift up the reservoir.

Remove the sensor (just press on the lever) and pull it out. Next, remove the pump by reaching at the bottom of the pump and press up. The pump comes off easily as there is nothing that attaches it to the reservoire. It is best to do this when the reservoir is almost empty otherwise you get water gushing out all over.

I cut off about four inches of the hose. Then attach the hose to the new pump.

Time to put in the new reservoir. There is a part on the bottom of the reservoir that fits into a catch on the chassis. Just remember to fit this part first before putting in the screw. Attach back the sensor and pump.

Finally using a sewing pin, clean the nozzles . At the same time use the pin to postiion the nozzle to spray to the windscreen at the desired position. This have to do a few times by experimentation to get it right.

Spray works nicely now.

The simple tools I used for this job
