Where's a good place to get a Unreg E39

the mistake i made was i trusted the salesman when he said the car was made in 1999. after 2 weeks, i casually checked the VIN and sent email to BMW in Germany to confirm the car manufacture date. It turned out that it was made in 1996.

I had that problem too, the question is "they claimed that it was registered in 1999 but the VIN claims it was maunfactured in 1997"

Could they be right? Or are we just water fish??

Probably the majority of buyers are unaware that they can do a VIN check. Or maybe the saleman himself actually believe the paperwork

Anyway, trust the VIN. If you cannot trust the VIN, bring to any UDM specialist workshop and do a MODIC check. Do not let others brand you water fish lah, whatever lah. But i brand these peole as conman, out to fleece innocent and naive customers.

registration year and manufacture year are totally different things altogether. many imported CBU recond cars are older cars made years before they get registered in M'sia. For you when considering to buy CBU recond cars, reg. year is irrelevant. what matters is year of manufacture. Stick to that principle, you're safe from being "fried"..

Technically it could be true but I doubt it. Trust the VIN. For recon cars, paperwork is not worth the paper they are printed on.

I actually have a friend (where i bought my recond e46) that imports cars from UK who would actually tell you the whole story. In my case, I even approve the car before he bought it and ship it in. And he always fly to UK to check the cars before bringing them in.

The only snag is that he specialises in Mercedes rather than bimmers.

pm me if you want his contact. His showroom is in Jln Semarak.

Just what is the whole story on recond cars. Can someone please enlighten me. I heard some of them buy it using student visa for reduced price, while others claims that they are purchased from auctions. So what is the story on it??

Will pm on the contact.

i got my car back from uk under student ap...so i basically know the whole story behind...dun trust the registration paper cos paper can be duplicated here in malaysia...exactly the same!!most of the grey imports buy their car from oversea based on photo n selling price...mileage is not a problem to them...they will buy high mileage car cos it will be much cheaper n change the odometer here..so unless u know the person well enough then u can go for it.

other alternative..buy a local spec car with full service record..not neccessary done by AB cos we all know what engine oil they are putting into our car.

there are too many lemons out there...hence u have to be careful n choose those dealers which forummers recommend...n avoid M*ng H**ng as too many fourummers here had been conned by them!!

on our old forum..imbi motor was recommended but their price is a bit on a high side!!but i am willing to pay the right price if the car is good!!

All the stories you heard about recon cars, they are all true.

The only question is that, which one of this stories apply to the particular car that you are considering at the moment.

Bishop,

You're the one holding the money. So, it's your call.. Don't rush it. Patience is very important. It's really buyer's market out there.. So take your time.. with your budget up to 160k, you can get 523i 2000 unreg. recond. easily.. don't settle for less than that. you can even push for 525i 2000 registered if u r lucky.. remember, take your time, do your homework, haggle really hard.. as a rule, whatever price is displayed by used car dealer, you haggle by knocking at least 30k right off the bat..

bishop...u can try out keong hing...cos as far as i know the cars they sell is one of the cheapest in the market...i have recommended a fren to buy a 323ci from them three months back..so far no problem...his name is shinji...he went to tt twice n e46 genting gathering!!i know the ppl in keong hing quite well cos my office is just round the corner...hence i will get extra information from them on which car is good or bad...happy hunting!!if i am free i can drop by for a while!!cheers!!i will pm u my no if u want!!

Please PM me your no.

Also can you ask around if they have any good E39 for sale? I called them they seems to have a few, perhaps you can get some inside info....

Hmm didn't follow the whole thread.

Bishop, did you eventually bought any E39?

I went to a few places and noticed they now bought in unregistered 2001 E39 525 but declared them as 2000 model. I checked the VIN plate inside the engine bay and also the VIN number over the Internet and these cars seems genuine. The only thing I need to check is to establish if the mileage is genuine. There is one that I really like but the asking price is on the high side. I just saw this posting and I am just wondering if I can really bargain this way by knocking RM30K from them as advised here. It would be really nice to be able to buy the car at that price!

Cheers.

BCT Marco, you know Keong Heng's boss? I want to knock off more discount from them but they wouldn't! Any more jalan?

Yes I finally got my E39. :yahoo: :yahoo:

Just picked it up on Tuesday. Generally seems ok.

The dealer promised to fix all the bugs within two weeks. Already found a few minor hiccups. will take it back to him next week, lets see if he keeps his word....

chan, I seriously don't think KH would let u knock 30k from them! Not even half of that I would think. Their advertise price on paper (not the price display on car) usually already lower as compare to other dealers out there. So they would not give anymore big disc. Go talk to Albert (the big size guy w short spiky hair) and try you luck.

skycon,

Nope, I know Albert and his other colleauge. I don't think I can get that kind of discount from them. I am referring to another outlet which has unregistered E39 which they put a high price tag. I just wonder if anyone has tried bargaining this way. I know a few of these places with AP and they normally bring in high UK spec car. I just wonder if they work that way because I have since price differential of close to RM30K between one dealer with another for car of the same year.

I know KH can go lower if they want to but I also want to make sure that I get the best deal from them before I commit. That's the reason for a bit of scouting around. I know i can knock of a bit more from them but I have not make a firm offer so I just keep visiting them to 'look see look see' what they have. That's a good way to spend time on a boring Sunday morning.

Like other is saying, I am taking my own sweet time for now to see what good offer is available. I still can't figure out why I need a MPV at the moment when only my wife and I drive the car!!

M30revival, so still having the City? How's your project going? Looking at the E90 launch, I wonder if E39 prices will drop even further???

How's your other project going on??? :D
