Anyone knows who has a good range of Unreg E39's? Anyone with experience please help. Need somewhere to start looking....

Just be sure that what the dealers tell you is true and not hyped up or wrong info. i had a look at one unit yesterday. According to the dealer:
. Unreg 525
. Year 2000
. Japan Spec

but i discreetly noted its chasis no. and checked on the VIN web. The result i got:
E39 523i year 1999 with M52TU engine.

Your are looking at the E39 523i Double Vanos (the tail end models) and power is still capped at 170hp. For abit more you can get the 525i Double Vanos with 192hp.

just make sure you avoid Ming Heng at Jln Genting Klang and SDLU at Jln Ampang. I had bad experiences in both places. Ming Heng cheated me, SDLU gave me poor customer service - treated me like 5hit and refused to honor its 3 month warranty.

Noted about Ming Heng, read enuf horror stories on the forum about them. havent heard of SDLU.

Anyone knows any good dealers that you had good experience with?

Where and how do I check for the VIN?

bro if you have caught what these dealers cheat don't waste time before many of our friends get cheated report to the goverment body so as they get it, not many knows how to really check what is tru in buying these cars.
Regards. :yahoo:

i'm suspicious of all the players in the used car market: from the salesman to the dealers right up to those in authority. Don't be surprised if you find that the docs are all in order. On paper the vehicle is as what the dealer claimed it to be! :getyourfactsright:

This has been discussed in the previous forum, especially on the MH topic.

i checked the VIN on this page:

http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi

BTW, the outlet that i went to was at Dataran Prima

If that is the case, how do we know if we are getting what we are paying for? Not all of us are expert mechanics....

I looking for my first UDM, dont want it to be a bad experience...

Be very very careful when buying an unreg BMW. There are a lot of 'fake' declared BMs out there. It took me 4 months looking for mine and finally ended buying a used one. Reason being it has already in the market and documents have been renewed like road tax and insurance meaning the docs are legal and nothing has been altered. It may take a while to get a good one but patience pays.

I was like u too once. Looking only for unreg ones. But after searching basically the whole of KL its not really worth. Dealers jsut want to push their cars off. They will con anyone who walks in. But they dont know some ppl have already done their homework. I dont like to be SOLD a car. I want to BUY a car. Think about it.

I would be glad to help u out if im free. I love to go around looking at cars. I study everything about basically every type of car from models to its accessories and versions worldwide. Give me a holler if u are going to see 1 and lemme check and see if im free. I travel overseas a lot so i might not be around most of the time. To give u a rough idea im only in KL 10 - 15 days a month and its not fixed. Be glad to help a fellow who is acquiring a BMW! Give me a shout. :yahoo:

u can try imbi motor at jalan imbi...it has been recommended in our old forum...price is ok n after sale service is good!!pm me if u want his contact!!

Thanks. PM'ed you.

Anyone else had any experience with this Dealership?

Or any other dealership?

Good or Bad. Please share.

Folks, i had a look-see at Cheras area over the weekend, several outlets there selling recond unreg vehicles. Specifically, i had a look at a couple of E39, again claimed by outlet as 525 yr 2000. VIN check showed prod date of 1999 and 1998!!

Now i really have doubts about so-claimed 525's out there. Maybe because it's the transition time for 523 to 525 (1999/2000), and maybe because they know people would prefer to go for 525, that is why they are willing to con potential buyers

Bishop, u're looking for 523i right? How about you go check out these con-men and challenge them that they are selling 523 model, so price should also be 523 price!

Sigh, maybe start looking for 2nd hand with known history instead of recond unreg... :(

i think your best bet is buying from bmwclub members. if your offer price is good, some might be prompted into selling, although now maybe they are not thinking about it..

check out the motortraders for used ones.. recond ones are very much suspect these days.. you have to remember that most or all of these cars are bought at auction houses/garages in the UK. the malaysian dealers specify what they want to middle men or brokers in the UK, who in turn buy the cars at the auction houses. the brokers only check the cars superficially and don't bother getting into details. so, sometimes the malaysian dealers will end up with lemons, which they will send back to the UK, if they are honest.. otherwise, they'll sell them at rock-bottom prices to unsuspecting buyers.. in sum, buying recond cars is akin to getting maids! it's a hit or miss thing!

hi. sorry if i get what i say wrongly. kindda new. hope to meet u guys all up hopefully this friday.
doesnt autobavaria has quite a number of e39 used car for sales in sungai besi???

went there last weekend and saw a few.

ah oh yeah ...

OH MY GOD. they had 2 bmw e46 individual. I dunno maybe u all see it very often but not me. The leather was nice and so was the body colour.
only wished they changed the dashboard panelling to something else since it was already customed.

Well I went to look at an E39 yesterday. Claimed to be a '99 model, but a quick check of the VIN shows that it is a '97/01 model.
He called me today and I told it to his face(phone) that it was a 97 model, but he insist that the paperwork claims that it is a '99 model.
You think that they(dealers/importers) bought a lemon or are they just trying to rip us off....?

Sigh, maybe start looking for 2nd hand with known history instead of recond unreg...
I think you might got something there. Will start looking for a local car with history...

juggernaut,
Saw your car up for sale, seems to be a good buy, too bad it got sold... :( :(

Wasn't your old E39 a recond car?

Perhaps I need to ask for divine help when buying a car.... ;) ;)

to answer your first question - sounds like they are trying to rip you off. i've been to a dealer who showed me a lemon and said it was so. he told me he's sending the car back to UK because it was accident car..

to answer your 2nd question - yes, i bought recond, but that was the 2nd e39 car that i got. the first one was a lemon and i returned it to the dealer after 2 weeks, and after some heated arguments. for the 2nd one, i went the whole nine yards to ensure that it was good and as per what the dealer told me it was. I actually contacted HPI in the UK to do the checking of the status of the car, ie. whether it was reported stolen, whether it was in accidents before, whether the mileage was correct, whether finance still has claimed on it, etc. HPI is an independent agency in the UK doing this sort of thing and working closely with the police, transport dept, insurance companies, etc. I paid a couple of hundreds to get this done and they sent me a report on their findings. you can do so over the internet at their website www.hpi.co.uk. So, i missed once, and hit once...

Starlight Motors opposite of Leisure mall is a reliable place to buy a car. I bought mine there and warranty service for 3 months is excellent. I can replace any defect parts from side rubber, wiper .. etc. Warranty maintenance is outsourced to Brightness AutoGarage at Taman Tayton ... as long as your car got flu .. u also can send there .. so hassle free.

What problems did you have in that 2 weeks that you didn't see when you bought the first car? So I wont make the same mistake....

the mistake i made was i trusted the salesman when he said the car was made in 1999. after 2 weeks, i casually checked the VIN and sent email to BMW in Germany to confirm the car manufacture date. It turned out that it was made in 1996.

I had that problem too, the question is "they claimed that it was registered in 1999 but the VIN claims it was maunfactured in 1997"

Could they be right? Or are we just water fish??
