I was running a check on this site:http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgiusing my E30's chassis number. Now as far as I know, my E30 is originally a 1991 E30, 4dr manual M40.However, this page states that for my chassis number, my car is a 1991 E30, 4dr manual M10.I thought M10s were replaced by M40s in 1987? And I'm sure the engine in my car now is an M40. So what gives? Is it a site error? I tried realoem.com, but they can't even get results.

i nver use that Z1 site...but realoem returned accurate results for my cars

I also think the M10 was last in 87, the only facelift variant could be the 316i

I tried realoem, but my chassis number (EJ82014) didn't get any results from them.

Mine's a 318i, not a 316i. Hmm, confusing lol. I was hoping to get it to work on realoem.com, so I can get exact part numbers easily.

Yo Nick!

Try emailing Andreas Harz at BMW mobile tradition archives can tell you the build date and other information for your car if you politely email him the VIN.
Historisches.Archiv@bmw.de

Have fun.

I think so.

I emailed him the number that appear on a metal plate on my NK 2000 (year 1967) and he replied promptly. Giving me the dates of manufacture and despatch to Malaysia. Also the name of the BMW distributor then Auto Dunia (?)

By the way next to the number I mentioned above is the word "Fahrgest. Nh", I guess this would be the chasis number in Germany.

yo guys... the local AB vin number is different from the ETK...

only AB can tell you the answer you need..

Oh shucks, so CKD cars VIN no. is different from CBU? Or still same? Confused abit now, however, I guess I can just call up AB and ask. I doubt they'd give me info for free tho lol.

you need to walk in with your grant and check with them...

only in M'sia was different.. cos CKD... but the new CKD'd carries the full Vin..
