Sorry for deviating the forum, but, indeed DSG problem is so prevails and it is getting out of control now. VW is facing 2.6M cars recalled worldwide due to DSG issue. So, we may have some teething problems with our bimmer, but as compare to this level of severity, it is unbelievable. This will further damage VW car reputation and eventually, their resale value will be significantly impacted. To my knowledge, BMW didn't use DSG or similar design for their gearbox, and Merz has lately introduced their A class with this similar gearbox design.

If TS is agreeable, would like to propose that this thread is transferred to the 'Other Makes' section.

Do note that the issue that plagues most VW owners here are the dry clutch DSG 7-speed (DQ200). This gearbox was the main reason why I sold my car. The DSG wet clutch, 6-speed, is awesome. Love the smooth gear changes and the infamous DSG "farts"

Local VW owners had a "protest" at the VW hq the other day with regards to poor after sales service n warranty issues and this DSG issue was one of the main reasons too.

Actually the dsg gearbox was the start of the issues, their main problem now is that VW advertised it as a 5 year warranty program. 3 of those 5 years are covered by insurance, Allianz IINM. If you had a DSG issue and your car is within the 1st two years, it's settled within the day and you get to drive your car back as the parts are aplenty now.

If your car is entering the 3rd year and onwards, the claims then go through the insurance meaning the service Center deals with the insurance agent. So each claim is like an insurance claim and the process is long tedious and arduous. First issue is that both the dealer and insurance guys don't deal well with each other. The insurance guys will always come back saying need more documentation or data. This prolongs the whole claim process. Another thing is that they check all the past invoices especially the service invoice. If you bring in your car 100km after the service is due, they will void your claim.

The owners themselves are getting pissed because the service centres are fully booked and packed (1 month wait list for certain periods) and this caused them to exceed the service interval. So stuck in a chicken and egg problem they started the protest.

So, Mavik, Merz dual clutch is wet I supposed ?
No idea mate, haven't looked into the actual mechanics of the merz's dual clutch gearboxes

The 6 speed DSG on previous MK V GTI is perfect and one of the most wonderful technology I have ever experienced. Super fast shift and super smooth. And this was 10 years ago back in 2004.

VW cars are nice but the people handling it here are in need of improvements. VWM should have fixed the extended warranty terms and conditions. Now the 5 year warranty looks like a gimmick and voiding warranty after 100km is BS when I've heard about the 4 week wait you need to wait for your turn to service. That has to be fixed ASAP.

I read in newspaper the VW service centre is now open on Sunday to cope with the high volume. Group demo works. Consumer is king. Hahaha.

I wonder whether we can do the same to get BMW to extend their warranty.
Good idea. Who wants to join the demo at BMW Malaysia? Put your name down. I prepare the placard. Btw where is BMW Malaysia located?
