G'day guys.I know this is supposed to be on the 6' section, but since E24 and E28 share many mechanical components, and also to get more feedback, i'm sharing my experience here.My E24 vibrates at around 80kmh, so decided to send it for servicing, baring in mind that the problem might lie in the control arm bushing. Sent it to Ultimate Batu Caves, and following were the parts price :1. front shock absorber - 340/ea2. absorber damper - 43/ea3. absorber mounting - 90/ea4. fan belt - 245. p/steering belt - 226. control arm bush - 98/ea7. oil filter - 308. spark plug - 4.40/eaLabour :1. replace absorber - 802. replace control arm bush - 603. service - 65The absorber had to be replace since it was leaking badly. No wonder the ride was 'bouncy'. I'm ok if its 'bouncy' while the car is not moving :nyehehe: But, the new bushing still have not resolved the vibration problem. So next on the list is alignment and balancing of the wheels. I'm riding on a 225/45/17.Need help from you guys :1. Any good tyre shop nearest to Bkt Beruntung that you know?2. Any other things I should check?3. Comments on the parts & labour price?Cheers.

Dear alfaizal,

1. I am a customer of Ultimate and have always found their charges to be reasonable.

2. You mentioned that you are using 17" wheels. Are these BM originals or some aftermarket rims? Some aftermarket wheels has a larger centre bore and therefore adding a hub centric ring is required.

3. Ultimate also does wheel alignment and balancing.

4. Since you have replaced those bushes, my suspision is that you need "on-wheel" balancing. Try doing this first to see if it eliminates your vibration problem.

Thanks for the reply

Yep but the Ultimate guys told me their alignment equipment is not working. So will have to look for somewhere else.

The rims are aftermarket, but have been used for the last 5 years without much fuss.

Anyway, can tyre shop help determine whether the rims need to add the hub centric rings?

Will certainly do both offwheel and onwheel balancing.

Haiyaa,

Berapa kali mau cakap...."on wheel balancing" la boy.
Why your spark plug very cheap aaa. Using PLOTON one aa???
What about ball joint? Excessive play can caused by dry ball joint.
It's a common problem for older E36.

just buy the new 6 la. Mesti tak goyang one.......

"Once a bimmer, a bimmer forever"

The spark plugs are cheap because it uses the same one as the kancil. Serious, not joking. Just buy two pack of three's and you are done.

3. absorber mounting - 90/ea
Hmm, front absorber mounting for E24 at RM90/ea. That is way too cheap. The original absorber mounting for E24 is at least RM370/ea. The E24 and E23 weight different is not that much. Just keep a look out on your new absorber mounting in a few weeks time to see if it can withstand the pounding of the new absorber.

Just wonder why don't you change the springs as well, unless you have change it before.

Like other said, the problem could be due to unbalance tyres. Do an on wheel balancing to see if this fix your problem.

1. front shock absorber - 340/ea
2. absorber damper - 43/ea
3. absorber mounting - 90/ea
4. fan belt - 24
5. p/steering belt - 22
6. control arm bush - 98/ea
7. oil filter - 30
8. spark plug - 4.40/ea

A few things need to be check ...

1) Tires - flat spot
2) Rims - hub centric
3) All the bushing
4) Tire pressure - believe me ... been there
5) on wheel balancing - a must
6) long-shaft

BTW, I was there when u service ur car that day ... Single digit 6 series, right.

I was in the black 535i ...

Thanks for the comments guys.

EasyCruiser,
Yep, I believe they are bilsteins

M30revival
Springs can last the lifetime of the car rite?
So as long as the ride is still ok, dont see the need to change

So am I using the right plugs?

Oh ya I remember the black 5'. Then I'll probably see you around Ultimate one of these days.

Im around the forum only during weekends or twice a month..so a long wait for replies.
Seems that the 6' cant start now.
So can't do the check on the tyres yet.
Will update once I get the details.

Cheers.

Check your tyres condition and see if its buldging and balance all the four tyres. If it still vibrates than just treat it as an Osim chair. :D
