Hi all good morning,

My car have the transmission faulty ..i bring the car for checking and the fault codes appear as 4F89 ratio monitoring gearshift 3-4 and 4F8C ratio monitoring gearshift 6-5.

The workshop that I went asked me to service the gearbox which cost me around rm3k and additional cost after they found what caused the faulty.

Did anyone of you ever experience this problem and what and where can you refer me to go for making the GB good again without excessive cost.

Thanks.

thats about right actually. problem with end clutch. but since take out already .. might as well do the whole works. ard 5K

Bro
Same with my problem e60 m54 525i. ..gearshift 2-1 n mechatronic problem...now oilseal pecah n got oil in my water tank...my mechanic advise to change 2nd gearbox coz of cost to overhaul.....2nd gearbox for 6hp19 around 6k-8k (trade in) at halfcut....walaweh....so I decide to overhaul n change new mechatronic. ....lelap mata ajer huhuhu

Hi guys..just to check with sifu here..mine is E60 2004 520i..same problem with the transmission fault..guess stuck at 3 gears..also before that the car is jerking when I press the accelerator while on low gear..when drive on 4 or 5the gear..the RPM meter goes up and down as though there is a misfire..anyway..now really permanent stuck with this transmission fault everytime I start the car whereby it use to be gone after restarting the car..so am I facing the same issue with this mechatronic thing..btw how much or rather where is the cheapest workshop to fix this..I see some say 2k some 6k some 11k..really scary the price difference

This is quite a common with e60 & e90 6 speed auto transmission (ZF6HP19). Most likely is the mechactronic's solenoids (7 pieces) that is causing the problem. Go to PKL Motorsport @ Kuchai Lama (goggle for exact address & location) as they are very familiar resolving this type of problem. You can buy the solenoids from Bavaria Auto for RM 1,500.

Thanks Herbert..actually I am staying around Kuchai Lama..and all the while I have passed by that strecth of shoplots where this PKL is and what a coincidence that this morning I send my car to check the engine overheated problem..actually 2 problems with my car..as when I checked out in this forum whereby u have mentioned this PKL and I searched it in Google to my surprise i was standing in front of the shop..hahaha...they tried to diagnose this engine overheated problem..Tak dapat cari..even they tested by letting the engine run for few hours...bloody hell when I took back my car to office..everything seems ok. After work I drove my son daycare Centre. .this signal of engine overheated "ting" again..every time it comes out there...argg...btw I have mentioned that I got to know PKL from this forum to Lai and he mentioned your name is it Herbert? Guess u r his bro ya hehe..actually this guy Kao Low quoted me for changing the solenoids is about RM3k plus to RM4K all in and he said the part is already about RM1k plus..I have checked with Bavaria and it cost RM1450. Not much difference. This Lai said for bimmer to maintain the transmission in lasting condition it is better to drive more often on highway instead of city drive..no wonder bm is called precious horse in Chinese..good horse must run thousand miles and not to waste it's talent..haha...btw my engine overheated problem still not solved yet but Lai have taught me some special techniques called lepas angin by flushing the water into the hole on the water tank. Hopefully it works as I am going to tried it tomorrow..

golf7109,

Do keep us update on your engine overheating problem.

I just flush the water tank with water..a lot of oil clot comes out..must be the coolant which is filled by the previous mechanics...till now touch wood nothing wrong even I drove in traffic jam yesterday for hours..must be the paip sumbat by the oil clot..

well....certainly saved you lots of $$$ by just doing a simple water flush.

Take note that 6hp E60 transmission solenoids are not that ecpensive compared to the previous 5hp transmission without mechstronics (cost 3 time more). Nevertheless, the 6hp senoids dont last a long time and it is common to service transmission and change couple if faulty solenoids every 80k km mileage as recomended by ZF.

Also note, failing to do so (servicing transmission at 80k km at reliable and capable centers who are able to electronically diagnose and code the erors) will cause more irreversible damage to the transmission and thus to your wallet.

Moral of the story: Dont take likely on the service and maintenance of the safety systems in ur car (engine & powertrain, fuel system, sterring and braking system, vehicle dynamics sytem etc)
