Is it possible to permanently close the outside air intake valve that linked to the air cond? Can't stand the outside smell especially when a bus or lorry passes by. Cant be switching off the button everytime. Is there a way to permanently seal it off? Will it be harmful in any way to the car ( engine and other parts) or the passangers? Your kind replies are appreciated. CHEERS :) :)

on your e46 there's the circulation thing that you can turn on and off...it looks like an arrow which goes in a circle..

wow, only now I realise that there's still drivers who trust our malaysian air! ( esp with aircon on somemore...) ka ka ka

yes, there should be a button which shows the car side profile with the air re-criculating inside the cabin....press it!

why dude?

Leave it on 'circulate' permanently lah....problem solved and no mods involved

There shouldnt be any probs leaving it on 'circulate' all the time too AND you still have the option of non-circulating the air i.e. let in outside air if required e.g. to air the cabin due to some offending smell (e.g. farts, food smells etc.).

I believe the aircon will also feel stronger in circulate mode.

Just my thots....

on the e46 it doesn't stay on permanently when you switch the car off and on again, have to press again...plus i think its not that good not to recycle cabin air...

ya i know that the button is there but it goes off everytime i off and on my engine. Is there a permanent solution????

The idea of having the car ventilated is to reduce the risk of accumulation of unwanted/hazardous gases in the passenger cabin, including carbon monoxide, which is odourless and deadly.

Don't know about other gases, except I think carbon dioxide induces drowsiness.

Do not put yourself and others at unnecessary risk.

BMW, Mercedes Benz, etc, have all designed their cars to ensure safety.

Best not to mess with it.

Not sure which model u drive but AFAIK and seen, the E32 7 series had activated carbon filter for its fresh air vents to absorb odours etc. Dunno about others. Mine does not.

You could try making it by putting charcoal chips in the air intake. :nyehehe:

woi so malas ah to press the button all the time?! kekek :D

The recirc mode can be programmed to remain on using the Modic. You can replace your microfilter with the ones that have activated carbon to reduce unwanted smells. It is recommended to have it in recirculation mode whilst driving to slightly overpressure the cabin compartment to prevent dust ingestion.

wow i tought my car onli got the problem of outside smell coming in to the cabin, you all know what i do , whenever a lorry, bus, motorcycle in front of me i will off the aircon totally then wait untill they gone or i overtake them. result is no smell at all... try this man its works.

Try doing that if you are stuck behind a fuming lorry in a jam. Are you going to sweat it out till the jam clears ;)

I have no problems with smells on my ride. Just turn the recirc on and replace your ordinary microfilters with the activated carbon ones.

circulation arrow got 2 type on my E46. 1 with A and another without ..

What does this mean ?

A the function that recycles inside air and the one without is the function that allows outside air to come in. :)

I think you are mistaken, both are recirc modes. The one with A is for Automatic. Sensors will determine if the outside air quality is clean enough, then the valve will allow outside air to mix with conditioned air. If the air is dirty it will go into full recirc mode. The other one is manual full recirc mode. If there is no light, recirc is off and you get mix air. ;)

capkel, i agree with u i wrongly posted. Got confused until i got into the car yesterday. sorry for the wrong info. :dunno:

I got mine from the BMW spare part shop in SS2. Can't remember the name now.

Most of the "specialist" workshops have it.
