My bmw e60 525i japan spec tangki water lost in week bout a litre. Is it normal? Urgent need help from all sifu. Thanks in advance

u need to go see ur mech and and do the test bro, how bout the engine oil or did it had overheated before this?

do a pressure test, and look out for signs of leakages......

My recent experience ... do the pressure test , leaking from expansion tank .

See mechanic , in my case , he just flush out and pour 3 whole bottle of BMW coolant and problem solve . my solution might not solves yours ....

Anyhow do the pressure test bro ... good luck

I was also losing some water over a week, around 500ml to 1 liter, a bit more if i do some long distance travelling. I've changed my coolant tank, and coolant hoses around late last year. Now no more problem, coolant level remains the same.

I also reminded myself that my '05 523i was already 8 yrs old at the time so might as well do some preventive maintenance before any untoward incident comes.

check the thermostat and temperature sensor O-ring as well beside the numbers of water hoses and expansion tank.

Sometime it could be also the radiator cap.

Thanks all for the comment. By the way how to check for the pressure? In my view I think there is no leakage. Now during town driving after a week no lost but outstation lost a bit. Around a few inch of water in the tank. Is it ok?

It is certainly not ok to loss a few inch of water after an outstation drive. There is still leakage somewhere and if I were you, I will be concerned and have it rectified ASAP.

Vincent, same thing happened to me.. Sent to mech for pressure test.. Found that the temperature sensor o-ring was damaged. Replaced and drove like a happy man again..:party::party::party::party:

My mech says it is due to thermostat no giving good flow any 3 pipe got leak stain. So I will go change it. Will keep u all inform one done. Thanks

Dear Members,

How about the electrical water pump and thermostat whats the life span as the E60 doesn't have temp gauge to monitor ?

Normally wait until there is water loss system or at certain milage just have it changed to have a piece of mind, my milage is 95k need the sifu's advice on this.

Thank You

Regards,
Siva

Siva,

For preventive maintenance at 95k km, I would replace the electrical water pump, thermostat, expansion tank (including the cap) and the water hoses. Ask Jason to also do a complete flushing of the cooling system.

Dear VP,
How much will it cost to replace all those things, my one now at 89k and i believe it is time to replace bfore it got totally spoilt. Last Q, should I do it with AB or Indy as I live in Penang...

Duke,

You should budget about RM3 k to have the above done at independent workshops or at least double the price if you do it at BMW authorized dealers' workshops.

I am from the Klang valley and hence I can't recommend you any workshops in Penang. You may wish to contact our club's Penang chapter OM Unstopables_7 and I am sure he will be most happy to assist you.
