Hi all sifu,I am thinking to get a F30 328 most likely next year, when my current ride is due for replacement under company policy:top:But due to the formula we have in our policy to compute the total ownership cost, I am a bit worried as many has quoted BMW as Banyak Masuk Workshop. So would like to do a small survey to the current E90 bro, say from buying a new E90 since few years ago, what or how much you would have spent in maintaining your ride ? As I reckon cost in the first 2 years are likely to be reasonable, I supposed as the car aged up the cost of keeping it will mount up.Maintenace cost (service + parts change) plus tyre cost (pure replacement), other car care cost. Say to sum up the expense for a period of 36 months ? Please help here, really love the way F30 is packaged, especially 328 :) Please do not count in rim & tyre upgrade cost as I will not do anything other than keeping the car as stock. :eek:Thanks a million !!

What maintenance cost? BSRI covers most wear and tear except tyre and petrol, while warranty covers the rest.. unless you exceeded the mileage limit lor.

Thanks for pointing the post.

However, I only need a total 3 years figure.

For e.g. Say someone E90 325 cost RM20,000 in 36 months for all maintenance, servicing, tyre change (1x time), parts change etc.

Or may I know if RM30,000 for a full 5 years ownership term is sufficient ?

Aiyoo.. if you itchy backside go kiss somebody's rear and causes NCD to wipe out and "unlucky" with parts reliability, how to predict? Buy number easier to strike la. You can spend RM2k of a piece or RFT or like me, RM375 on Korean tyre..

Seriously, FIRST 3 years of E90 or F30 is entirely covered by Warranty and BSRI, hence cost is really negligible. In fact, apart from road tax, insurance, car wash, tyres and petrol will do. Even when coming to tyres, mine can only last 30k km while another member's E90 can last 60k km, same brand and model tyre.. how to calculate for u?

Cost is extremely subjective and without enough facts from you, hard to calculate. For example, my wife only drives her car for around 10k km a year while I drive an average 30k km a year and my cousin drives an average 80k km a year due to his nature of work. So the total distance travelled will affect the number of services, BRSI, petrol and tyre wear

What is BRSI ? I will not drive more that 20,000KM a year. So for 3 yrs I will drive not more that 60k km, for 5 years not more than 100k km.

So, with 60k km for 3 years, only assume one time (4pcs) tyre change :)

Kiss other ppl backside is not counted, as it's covered by insurance -> classified under running cost which I know exactly how to calculate. Running cost incl roadtax, insurance, petrol. I am from Fin & Accounting background. Only maintenance cost is an unknown area for me, as I am always skeptical on BMW reliability but just like this new F30 too much ;)

328sports, then u dont have to worry as all maintenance will be covered. the only thing you need and that is not covered under the package:
1) top up engine oil. 1L is RM55 (special price), otherwise retail is RM70?? Astroboy pls confirm. Some authorized Service centre is Q***** provides free top up. Not in Ingress Auto for sure. and depending how you drive, you may not need top up after all, considering you said max 20k mileage a yr

2) wheel alignment and balancing
3) Tyres, you budget RM2k per unit x 4

BSRI covers BASIC maintenance, oils, pads, belts, rotors only. The question is what else over and above this. That will be ehat OP is asking about. Once that is edtablished then the OP will be able to submit to the company on owning the F30.

So you need to calculate tyres and other things such as when the ABS fails. That is the so called 'hidden' maintenance cost. Check the forum carefully to see what needs to be changed before 80,000 kms.

Ya, I browsed the maintenance cost thread quite a bit to understand what is hidden and what are under BRSI.

So, in short, I guess RM35,000 maintenance budget for a full 5 years term of ownership is quite (or more than) sufficient, assuming about 100,000 km all in all.

Thanks ! :)

F30 M Sport will be out soon in EU, wonder when it will come to Malaysia. That would be lovely to own esp if they were to bump up some HP in the car.

Not that I know of. As I started off this thread, I thought most sifu here should easily have the info for me for 3 years kind of onwership experience.

But I will be using the car for 5 years as company policy, so just extrapolate and + 20% lor.

Other worthy consideration..

1. BMW parts and workshops are abundance.. unless u compare to Merz.

2. The driving dynamic of BMW is priceless. once driven one, it will spoilt your choices for other makes. Which other saloon car maker place more emphasis on chassis balance, which is the most important factor of cornering and highspeed stability?

What's ur other option?

Actually I am a Merc supporter, all the times in until I see F30 :)

My siblings are all driving Merc, and I drive a Passat 2.0T, tuned up to 245HP too.

From test drive the F30 did not give me better power than my current Passat but slightly better handling, of course the test route did not allow me to fully explore the potential of 3 series. So, from FSI turbo to Twin-scroll turbo, I did not notice much difference even the 328 is supposed to have much higher torque at much earlier RPM, I simply did not feel it.

Once engaged sport mode, on sedate driving the RPM always above 2,000 which is the max torque zone of my current Passat as well. The 328 ran out of RPM by about 7,000 RPM, and my current Passat after tuned up at about 6,800 RPM.

So I reckon that on 90-95% of my usual driving (most of the time home to office and back to home) I don't have a chance to enjoy the perfect handling of 328. But I like the frontal look.

Honestly if Merc new c-class to be designed like the latest CSC concept, I will pick a Merc over F30, coz the steering feel of Merc is more to my liking ;)

But for the time being, F30 is the only choice. Audi does not make sense to me coz it's 80% similar to Passat.

aiyah..u asked for first 36 months (3 yr)..then 5 yrs???

not sure about the new f30.

for my car,
1) aircon when turn to max, the blower will be noisy.
2) side mirror mechanism spoilt- more than 3 times
3) abs failed at 70k
4) xenon light module failed at 80k
5) autodoor lock - fuse
6) 6 pcs wheels changed since ownership.

Considered the Lexus?

Not enough power for him la. From Euro to Jap, from Turbo to NA, more like downgrade, it won't happen la.. :4:

Power is nothing without control.. Power also is a function of chassis weight. The new Polo 2.0 TSI with 220hp can makan your souped up Passat anytime due to it's superior power to weight ratio.. :4:

Horse power figure only play a small part in driving dynamic. If traffic stop sprint is top of your priority, get something with more grip, an AWD. Have you tried the Golf R? Only RM270k

Try playing the throttle in a corner, you'll find the linear delivery of power in so important in modern turbo engine, this is where the twin-scroll beats the other Euro marques by huge margin.

I am asking for 36 months ownership - maintenance, not for 5 years even I am going to keep the car for 5 years.

I asked for 3 years data because I know there are more sifu here to share his/her experience. It's easier for you to give me the rough estimate too :)

I won't consider small European hatch as I am no longer at the age that need best power to weight ratio to trash out other road users :D

But I need one that give me comfort, good looking, yet good power, good resale value, less headache (all at same priority) over a 5 years period. Handling is secondary, but I reckon all German make are good at that :) Never ever thought of Japs ....

You are so wrong. U can try it on a shopping trolley. Place all the load to front of the trolley and try maneuver it.. that's your VW and Audi FWD handling. Straight road all the same la. Handling is way up there on my list because only BMW turns as you wish, all the rest, u turn steering, car still go straight in certain situation. Merz still acceptable la.. just hate the suspension set up meant for pensioned individual and the steering that has zero feel.

Anyway, many escalated this secondary consideration of yours to the top of their priority list without them knowing AFTER they start owning a BMW for a wrong reason.

My brand new pre-registered E90 320i bought 4.5 years ago clocked 50km on average daily, depreciated RM100k already, that's a 45% investment wiped out. Spent less than RM7k on maintenance, inclusive of tyres, bumper respray and windscreen chip repair. Many were done DIY, if you don't want to dirty your hand, add probably another RM3k to make it RM10k la.. with some minor leaks which I haven't fix because can wait.. :4:
