Hi Al,

Thanks.... will look out for the Texstar pads and give them a go.......yup... EBC have had a very aggresive marketing campaign...especially in the UK mags.....

Red Earth,
Yup, your brakes were good.... my rearview mirror was full of your projector lights until my brakes started giving up and i had to slow down....... then all i could see was your rear wing slowly disappearing into the distance.....

does changing pads really makes a differents..??? I've gone to 2 track session with my stock Ferodo pads la.

Coz u dun brake mah..........

In addition to better equipment like brake pads, brake hoses and brake discs, the proper braking technique should also be used to minimise the build up of heat in the brake system.

Of course it makes a difference. Why not try changing yours & then tell us the differences.

Of course there is a proper way to brake for track driving which is suppose to help heating up of the brakes. So cant really compare that to normal street driving unless you dont really care who is behind you especially in a convoy.

Try changing pads ya. Then maybe time can improve on track. ;)

wah zoggee u drive like that on the track and with stock pads....
try lah upgraded pads, and more importantly good brake fluid (bled more often if you do track events)

the first thing i always do when i buy a new car is address the brakes, granted BMW brakes are good to begin with...but my aggressive driving warrants something abit more.

i'm always up for a drive...

Hi Alvin,

Thanks.... will be changing to EBC green stuff brake pads in the shortly...... What is a good brand for the brake hoses and is there any real benefit for cross drilled or slotted brake discs besides the fact that they look good......

Based on my experiences i would recommend Pagid orange. They are very good pads especially for spirited driving & track. They tend to run much better even after 8 or 10 laps continuously on track. Another fav is the states that trackers or auto x people are using is the hawk pads. Brought a set back for a friends mini & it worked really well. These are not race pads so you would not need to heat them up for it to work. Works find from the start.

Pagid is expensive, hawk is reasonable (well to me at least).

As for cross drill or slotted, for street use its really not necessary. But if you intend to track & autoX then it will definately help cool down the brakes.

pope...may i suggest the nxt big convoy drive...please please drive in a moderate speed as i'm sure the boys in blue r watching..
dont want to get in trouble do u?
best time to break free and loosen up is on stretches tht u knw is "kodak" free!
lets just put it this way....its not tht difficult to recognise a bunch of udms flying by zig zagging...
lets not b known for bad reasons...

Ehhhhhh......Tyke, dontlah imply we're all speed freaks on the road  The drives to Ipoh, Melaka, Putrajaya, Wangsa Maju etc were all within the speed limits and adhered to the traffic regs. Of course we try our very best to avoid being part of the Coppers "Meet the Rakyat" sessionslah! :)

But then you knowlah, if ppl wanna pecut pecut off cant stop them, right?

The "spirited sunday morning drive" was meant to be a small group driving responsibly but at an obscenely early hour of a Sunday to Ulu Yam.

What is the proper braking technique for track??

kennyG, u watch F1? what you do is to stomp on the brakes until you can see smoke coming out of the wheels. Then you let go and turn the steering wheel. Remember to brake in a straight line at ALL TIMES - trail braking is very advance stuff, maybe XXX can teach you some day :D

Thanks Alvin,

Will check out the hawk pads first then.......pagid may be a bit more than i intend to spend as will only be doing the ulu yam drive once every month or 6 weeks....

Noted the point about race pads......quite true.....don't want to have any shocks in the morning when driving out for work in the morning and need to tekan the brake pedal like hell for the first junction corner as pads are not heated up.... also heard that race pads are not good for highway driving as for long distances the brakes are not used and suddenly when there is a need to do a emergency brake, the pads are still cold and got no bite.....

Aiyoo....the stock brake pads is good enuf la.I think Sith got the vids. of me in E36 on Sepang .....Sith..??? Sith..???? where's my Vids CDs.??
