To the guys who made it for the early morning drive to Ulu Yam on sunday (30th July 2006) morning...... Congrats on making it back in one piece! lol! :D Just as an advisory thread for the rest of us "go slow slow" drivers, could you please list any engine/wear & tear issues that may have popped up after the spirited drive back? Engines running at high revs on a 5 year old car is bound to reveal some issues.....any recommendations on what parts us mere mortals should look to upgrade to before the next sunday morning drive? For ease, if it could be indicated if the UDM's were/are a 6 or 4 potter, that would be great... Cheers! ;) Can then move it to the 3 Series Maintanence section when appropriate

Aiyoo...Pope??

Why didnt call(pm) me....I can show you a road or two.

Nobody said anything one???

On wear and tear, it depends on how it's driven.. Eventhough when driven hard, there's 'smooth' hard and 'rough' hard...

A note in mind, please be wary if you guys plan to go again next time, commence drive at about 7 and road is dry.. why??? damp or slightly wet road can act as camouflage for spilled diesel... and if u see tow truck along the route.. even be more cautious...

I have driven hard there with the IA fellows (free for all) and oso slower drive with the WPC gang (as guest). both are enjoyable...

Ok ok ok.... it was VERY last minutelah. As usual, these things aren't exactly planned a week in advance. More like "saturday afternoon, ppl bored so all plan for sunday morning drive" kinda thing.

Anyway, if there are future ones, will post on the website but must be said upfront that this is NOT a "one week in advance" kinda thing, ok? Details will be posted when some bright spark has decided to "organise" it, and then those who show up go. Those who cant make it, stay at home and sleep :p No need for "who wants to go please list your names below" sort of list. That takes too long and too many "can we please move the date" responses... lol! Sith, you know what i mean, eh, esp with this whole e36ers drive thing.... lol! Just teasinglah bro, jangan marah, yeah?

Actually have done private runs before in the past but didn't post up the after event thread to 'tease' others.. hehehe.. No pun intended...
On some routes, it's better to keep it to the select few which we feel can handle the heat (free for all)

As for convoys for more people, we tried our best to organise an orderly, keep to the speed limit.

sorry guys... the drive was discussed on Saturday morning via a couple of calls and sms's.... only 6 of us managed to make it at 630am meeting....one joker who stays at the Vatican had to give it a miss as he was only back from his dinner at 6am!!!

Going up : all cars no issues..... it helps that it is mainly uphill so brakes not really used.....

6 potters....both suffered brake fade on the way down from awana using the genting road......so had to slow down half way down, use engine braking and then after that start spirited driving again..... but for me, it was a case that near Awana, for the first 10 corners down, i did not use much engine braking but the actual brakes, only later, i began to use engine brake - 1 and 2 on the step but at that point, think the brakes were already half cooked.....

My brakes are okay after that so think it was only the pads/discs that overheated for that short bit.....

4 potters.....after the run on the karak highway, 2 of the cars had the check engine light come on when we stopped after the toll......but no issues with oil levels or water temp...and they had no loss of power.....guys, once checked out, please post the results of the check.....

the yellow M3 : he had no problems at all.......

It will most probably be the pads & the heating up of the brake fluid. You should chg pads to a better performance one & an upgrade to stainless steel hoses for the brake lines. You will see huge differences.

Would also be good to change the fluid annually and definitely helps coming downhill from Genting :)

Zoggee

When??

It'll be a weekday drive for me. Gonna ask a friend who needs a ride to Pick up his other German marque about 45mins away from Kelang Valley. I got a sudden itch to drive( whack my car..!!!) these few days leh...:D Oh yeah...ask Franklin along.

Hi Alvin,

Thanks.... will be changing to EBC green stuff brake pads in the shortly...... What is a good brand for the brake hoses and is there any real benefit for cross drilled or slotted brake discs besides the fact that they look good......

BMWcar, I have the EBC green currently on my ride (tried at the HPC event too). Dont think its that great despite all the marketing. The braking power is lacking compared to the Texstar pads which I was previously using.

The existing e46 brake discs are ventilated already, good enough for daily use. Get a good set of pads. The stainless steel hose will improve brake feel slightly.

Cheers

yup..i agreed...i changed my brake hose at two months ago and good response tho...when speeding down from Awana, i can feel the different between before and after,...i mean i actually went up to Genting two weeks after i got my car...hehehe....:D

Hi Al,

Thanks.... will look out for the Texstar pads and give them a go.......yup... EBC have had a very aggresive marketing campaign...especially in the UK mags.....

Red Earth,
Yup, your brakes were good.... my rearview mirror was full of your projector lights until my brakes started giving up and i had to slow down....... then all i could see was your rear wing slowly disappearing into the distance.....
