Original BMW are not common anymore. in fact the windscreen on our CKD bimmer are local made with JIS stamp instead of the TUV one that is found on CBU units.
I changed mine last year at the cost of RM6xx ,it is local made laminated type with the shade on top end of the windscreen.
The insurance also pays for your tinting film so long as you can prove to them with receipt that you have one installed on your car prior to the claim.
cost of premium is 15% of the insured value. I paid RM150 for RM1000 value.
The insurance company will ask you to go to their panel with a copy of your ic, car's registration card , insurance policy and receipt of your tinting for the claim. if all is intact, they will do it immediately after taking pictures of the cracked windscreen. You don't even have to pay anything as the panel glass workshop will claim from the insurance company.
The windscreen policy covers all glass windows, rear windsreen and even sunroof besides the front windscreen. IMHO, worth adding on to your insurance policy as it does not effect the NCB. but you may be asked to reinstate the policy for the remaining period of the main policy.
All in all, I think RM1000 insured value is good enough for E36 but if you have v-kool tint, maybe RM1500 is better.
