dear guys, i was driving from JB to KL at night and noticed strange reading on the outside temperature. The temperature read 26.5 to 27.5 at speed 120 - 130 KM/H but whenever I push it over 140KM/H, the temperature reads upto 29. The temperature dropped again when I slow down. Anyone experienced this before? Is this a sign of overheating if i keep pushing it further?By the way, i bought mine E90 320i as an used car and according to the mechanics, the car was done top overhaul before. He claimed that the engine might overheat if the top overhaul jobs was not done properly. Is this true? Please advise and share. Thanks.

Your outside temperature reading has no relation to your engine temp, bro.

I tend to agree with rpmnut. The outside temp reading does not relate to engine temp...

You may want to inspect your temp sensors tho!

what was the rpm when you were driving 120km/h? i believe it should be around 2.5k - 3k, hence the engine is operating at its optimum speed where it is not under stress and does not generate so much heat..when you push it harder to 140km/h, the rpm then goes up to perhaps 4k - 4.5k? the engine will be on higher stress and generates more heat, which in turn could also affect the reading of your outside temp due to the heat probably flowed to the outside temp sensor..hehe just my 2 cents worth theory..coz i noticed on my ride, the outside air temp gets higher and higher the longer i stay stationary at one point (with no other cars around)..i wonder where the outside air temp sensor is located?

Thanks guys for the advice. Just checked the water and found that the level dropped, just top up 1 liter into it. Guess that the top overhaul was not done properly and caused water lossing. Dont think it is water leaking as I had just replaced complete set of water hoses as well as radiator.
