Anyone has a DVD copy of the local Nav DVD? Know where I can get a copy? Thanks. Best Regards,

i'm driving a japanese spec of 525i. U mean just put the dvd at the back and it can work like normal gps in the idrive ? Thanks bro.

Hi all

I'm bringing back my 525i from the UK at the end of Sept. Is it as simple as getting hold of a copy of the disc mentioned in this thread for me to use the sat nav in KL?

Thanks

I got the map 09/01 copy. PM me if you are near by pj are.

Bro, mind sharing how do you key in the street name etc, as the panel is not a touch screen one. Thinking about a Garmin device. Any advise?

terencehillary,
The Garmin external GPS units are good.I had one in my previous Merc and I won't go into KL without it but what we're keen is to get the GPS working in our existing Idrive as low on the cost as possible.I mean it just seems ironic to have the startup page on your Idrive saying Navigation and yet we have to use an external unit...tak best la.I did make some calls to try and get it integrated into my system and the prices they quote, you could actually buy a Kancil for that kinda money. Now why didn't BMW just omit the Nav in cars that don't come with it is a mystery.

Guna, I get teh same message as yours in my E60 as well. You need to get the original disc I am told by AB. Costs 2K plus.

Terencehilary, explain a bit more bro. What do you mean by plug and play Garmin n53? Where are the maps displayed - car's screen or the garmin unit's screen. How do you input steet names etc? Thanks much.

Bro,you gotta go to your trunk and see if there's a little box like thingy on the left side of your booth,If there isn't any.then your car doesn't come with the navigation system(so I've been told).I think you and I are in the same boat.Keep me posted if you've found a solution. As for the Garmin unit,I think what he meant was the Garmin unit and not the Idrive screen(Please say I'm wrong Terrence).Plug and play means, you plug the power socket to your cigarette lighter and play la.To my knowledge the street names can only be injserted if you're registered contributor to the Garmin website.Again,I could be wrong

On all of 3 my Garmins ( Zumo 550 on my bike, in my nokia , in my car ) the easiest way to input and find street names is to JUST input ONLY the name . Example :

Jalan Putra Bistari 2/1P => input => putra or putra bistari => results :

it will list all the putra bistari like putra bistari 2/1Q , putra bistari 2/1N and all that have putra bistari in it. Then just choose which one that suits u.

Do NOT input Jalan or Jln (or street or road when not in Malaysia)

searching for Lorong 13/7 => just input 13 and it will list all that have 13..

the search will be limited to the city or country that u specify when u start the search.

have fun.. and enjoy easy searching now :)

and u DO NOT have to be a contributor to the Garmin site as it is a standalone unit and not connected to the net ... and a word of caution to those using Garmins on your Nokia or other makes , if u have A-GPS (Assisted GPS) which means that the phone uses the station signals to triangulate your position for faster LOCK-ON , u will be charged by the relevant telcos for data usage as I was when I was in Monaco last month and Singapore and Brunei recently.

Enjoy.

Hi Guna & Gnair8,

The maps appear on the idrive screen and for this installation, there is a separate Garmin N53 device which will be fixed in the aux in and can be navigated using idrive and also remote control provided...
I have also installed a dvd movie player... so i can watch dvd, listen to mp3, cd & cdrw... interested?
