folks, my battery comes located within the (hot) engine compartment. i have looked under the rear seat area and it has all the mounting points for the battery. my questions then:1. how long a cable to route the positive cable end back to engine bay connections - would ~20 feet be sufficient to cater for any curves/bends etc?2. best routing path? what is the default routing path for E34s that comes with the battery already under the rear seat? i do see a hole around the ECU compartment area that goes thru the firewall and comes out under the dashboard (right hand side of the car).3. any other advise (especially for those who have done this mod before)?

my E34 yr 1995 comes originally with battery located under the rear seat... what year is yours?
but if u said, the place and mounting for the battery is already there in yr car...can it be yr car gone thru an engine replacement or something?

mine is oct 93 ckd - it is a hand me down from dad.

it would help me if someone can send me some pictures of the rear seat mounted battery especially how the +ve and -ve connections are made.

Hei,bro nothing wrong the Batt locate at engine bay ,even you relocate the Batt under the seat no any diffrence!!!!?

Engine bay: heat build-up causing shorter battery life, also disadvantage in terms of weight distribution.

Under seat or in boot: longer battery life (generally), better weight distribution (advantage in handling)

Hei ,bro ,if the batt are not manitenence free ,so,the overflow pipe connect to where? this have to solve !!!!?

There should be a drainage hole for it, you hafta check the late E34 models. I know there's one at the battery compartment floor in the boot of my E36.

For E34 model ,locate maintenence free batt under seat more suitable, then some E34 model have to relocate the Main batt wire from engine bay untill under seat terminal, for my car i just let the batt at engine bay ,so far O K!!

My E34 has the battery in the engine bay. I dont see any need to relocate it. Does heat buildup really shortens battery life? Never heard of this before. And better "weight distribution" for something that probably weighs not more than 5kgs? Really?

The battery is easily 1% of the car weight, seriously! It's easily 10-20kg. Unless of course you go for the little dry cell battery used in hard core race cars, but the capacity will be much less.

As for the engine bay heat, that depends also on how the car is used. Quite debatable actually. Anyway, I think most bimmers with batteries in boot/rear seat will average 3-5 years battery life, maybe more. Not sure about those with batteries in engine bay.

I think when BMW design the car, the would have done their maths in the weight distribution. So if you're going to make changes, then figure that out..

And i don't think you wanna mess any wires up in a e34 as there's a lil IT center under the rear seat...

if the batt locate under the seat, then our car front tyre gap to body will increase, for rear look the gap close to body ,for those come with ori absorber.
