Another obvious facelift feature is the kidney grille on the E36. The narrow, squarish kidney = pre-facelift, the slightly broader chrome bits = post-facelift. Also, facelifted had digital, push-button air-cond controls while pre-facelift used turn knobs. In the E90, the trend went back to turn knobs, heh!
