This must be the year where the focus is on my car cos' signs of wear and tear is finally showing. My poor old E39 (M54)...Not long ago it was the A/C thermostat, key, power window and now the loss of power during drive. The symptoms are as follow:1. During drive, car started to loss power, RPM starts to drop creating the loss of pedal feeling and car just doesn't go forward and sometimes the RPM will mysteriously climb back up again and car move normally. Otherwise the engine will just shutdown.2. No jerking or stuttering feeling before the engine shuts down.3. With the engine shut down while car still rolling, restarted the engine each time with no problem and car resume motion....4. This problem can occur about 10 times within a 5 Km distant.Had the following possibility ruled out at my mechanic today.- Precat Sensors ( both sensor changed)- Fuel Filter changed.- AF sensor cleaned and tested with a new sensor.- Diagnostic showed no fault codes.- Idling is perfect.- Spark plug/coil are all goodQuestion is. What was that all about? thank you

I would like to add
camshaft sensor and/or crankshaft sensor..

It wont show up as error when it is playing up..only when it gone south then you can see the error code..

I once had problem with my camshalf sensor..symptoms are quite similar to yours..hope it helps bro..mine is m52 engine btw..i wonder why the diagnosis didn't pick up the problem.

The problem is fixed. The winner is e39-boy! yes, it is the fuel pump and I'm RM1k++ lighter too. Once again, thank you all.

BimmerDan,

Glad to hear your car problem is now resolved. I am sure by now you would appreciate the usefulness of this forum and the many braders here offering you valuable assesments of your problem. Kudos to e39-boy for his accurate assesment and do join us for official tt this coming Friday night.

Cheers

What can one do without this forum, love live the forum! Thanks for the invitation but I have prior arrangement made perhaps the next one. Has the type-of-venue changed since 05? it has always been at the mamaks....which I'm not so keen on.

This is off topic, but whats the difference between an official TT and the unofficial TT?

Official TT is organized by BMWCM, usually the 1st Friday evening of every month and everyone is welcome to join in including club guest.

Since Official TT is only once a month, lots of members do like to get together weekly (usually Friday evening) and hence the so called "unofficial TT".

Unofficial TT is where the different chapters of the club (ampang/paparich/7's at Teak etc) hold their TTs by invitation/organized by the different chapters.

Official TT as the name suggests is officially arranged/invited by the club and the aim is to bring all the different chapter together to sit in one place in one table.

Correction, I think the Official TT is on the 2nd Friday of the month.
