Saw this filter in one of the shop selling for about Rm190 for an E36. almost 2x the original price of an OEM filter. It is plug and play type. The seller claims the filter can be wash. Hence, saving in maintenance after 2 service and of course clean air when you wash the filter. What you thinks? Honest opinion is appreciated.

calling for yoke.. I think you have use this product before. appreciate some feedback..

Unker..... these are similar to the K&N drop in replacement panel filters.... only different tech used..... at 190 for E36 seems cheaper than K&N panel filter for E30.....

You off course already know that it wont give you any power increase :) ..... perhaps some savings over the long term due to washability..... I'm using one right now and there is no perceptible increase in power.....

As to how efficient/effective these things are at filtering the incoming air vis normal paper filter check this out..... still contentious I think http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/upgrade/Air_filter.htm

If want power, a washable high flow filter with a specially designed airbox which rejcts heat will be best e.g. BMC CDA, Pipercross Venom etc.

based on my own experience of open pods K&Ns.

only advise is it's good value since it's washable......otherwise the other plus is sound but yours is panel type so only the $$ saving is most & only relevant. but then u have to pay money to buy their properitory wash liquid and oiling agent....go figure!

cannot verify power claims but if ANY AT ALL, likely top end part.

Jules... didn't know that you need special liquid to wash the filter. That guy say use water is good enough..

Jipster thank for the link... it seem like foam type filter are the worst of the lot.

another famous brand using FOAM is UNIFILTER of Australia...used a lot in 4WD. See if they use water here to clean...

HKS....aslo foam and this fella smarter - CHANGE! no need wash or oil!

Do Unifilter have filter for E36 air box/ How much do they cost?

and what about HKS's performance as compare to original type filter? what is the price of the HKS filter?

If you're going to use the filter on an e36 - 325 or 328, you should also look at taking out the small flat plastic tube that's in the standard air box. It's a bit restrictive and is there only to lower the noise levels. And once you do do it, it sounds so much better. Some guys also recommend taking off the splash guard thats right infront of the standard intake, but in Malaysia, with our heavy rains, not a good idea me thinks.

Having said that i use the Venom version of the Viper filter. Sounds positively mad since i run it without the cold air intake. And before you all start flaming me about not using the CAI, if you look at the piece supplied, it's smaller than the OEM one and without it, my car sounds so much better. Having said that, i belong to the club that feels at speed, there is so much air coming into the engine you don't really need a CAI. Also, when you are reving 6k+ your engine needs so much air that any CAI will be restrictive.

Don't believe me? Anybody have a standard 328 they wanna "test" against mine? :nyehehe:

Lastly, i usually only put on the Venom when i have to go up to Penang. When i am doing my usual daily rounds through traffic, i am on the standard box with a K&N. ( which mind you, you should not over oil as the oil will bugger up your MAF, just a thin coat and let it seep in)

My next upgrade will be a Dave F heat shield for an open Pod K&N filter with 2 CAI's! That i feel will sound super, not have any heat soak problems and not be restrictive at high revs.

Is it ok to drive a car with an open pod air filter during rainy days ? would it have any effects?
