Hi guys, not sure whether this topic has been discussed before. Sorry if it has been.May i know what is a Parktronic / PDC / Park Assist ? Is the 3 same ? in what model / year of beemers can i find these features on ?I have tried googling and utube'ing but most result came out is for Mercedes and BMW 7 series.I am looking for a E39 or maybe E46..hopefully this 2 models have it..From what i understand, it is a reverse and front sensor that produce beeping sound when getting too close to an object. no ? no pun intended :smokin:

PDC = Parktronic Distance Control. Try googling this.

Most e46 and e39 do come with these feature but mostly in the rear only. Only on high specced cars do you find hem both in the front and rear.

if rear only then means its a normal sensor like those found in proton cars ??

how about those with front sensors? does those gives a warning beep also or there's a screen for us to see ?

Screens for PDC only found on e60, e 65(6), f01(2) and some e90s, in short vehicles with iDrive. E39 and e46 have no PDC display.

Depends on the spec(again) the PDC in the e39 and e46 will have beepers both in the dashboard and the rear speaker board. There should be 2 sensors in both front and rear bumpers (again depending on spec).

Well,I've got an E60 530 with PDC.It's got 4 sensors in the front and 4 at the back.there is a diagram of the car on the Idrive screen the minute you go into reverse or if you depress the PDC button on the lower dash.As you approach objects the colors of the sensor zone changes from green, yellow and finally red(danger zone). The beep tone comes off the speakers and the best part is,the sound comes from the side of the car that the object is ie.if you're approaching an object on the rear left side, the beeping comes from that speaker hence you know which side of the car is approaching something...cool ain't it...kinda like Sensurround...but no Dolby system la ok.

I didn't know that. thanks for that info. :)

Certain E46 & E39 that has PDC, comes with the BMW Reverse MID. This type of MID displays the "distance to contact in meters" when PDC is switched on. Good stuff.:top:

My E39 has front & rear PDC. 4 sensor on both front & rear bumper. For front, the beep is from dashboard. For rear, the beep is from rear. Unfortunely, i don't have MID.

From what I understand:

PDC - Park Distance Control. Is a system of sensors that will give off a visual or audible warning of the proximity of any obstacles during parking. The sensors are generally fitted to the rear (and hence sometimes referred to as reverse sensors) and the fronts. It helps the driver in parking the vehicle in tight spaces.

Park Assist - Sometimes called Intelligent Parking Assist System, as fitted in the Lexus, Ford, Mercedes and Volkswagen models, the system is able to parallel park the car without any steering intervention by the driver. When a chosen parking space is found, the driver has to position the car alongside the front of the chosen space and press a button. The car will park itself.

Parktronic - Mercedes commercial name for BMW's PDC.

All e39 has MID. It's known as multi information display. Some has low specced MID while some has high.

Hi Bimmerholic,

may i know how to differentiate between high/low specced MID ?

MID displays the "distance to contact in meters" >> does high spec MID only have this ?

I don't know about high/low spec la but mine comes color coded.from green, yellow and finally red.

I dont believe there's such a thing as a high/low speced MID.

On the E39 that is a 5" screen that replaces the MID if you have a sat nav and with it comes a TV and with this big screen, certain graphical display becomes possible. But this is not a MID. It is called an on-board display.

The ordinary slit of a MID is the same. It is nothing more than a display.

What makes the difference in the display is the additional systems that are fitted to the car that uses the MID to display.

Over and above the common display, if you have a telephone, it will the MID to display.

There are 2 types of OBC, one with a check control with pictogram display (standard upto 530) and another with a check control with an alphanumeruc display (standard with the 535 upwards). Both uses the MID for display.

Dont go off all excited.

Hi Saat,

i still catch no ball bro. u mean those with 5" screen ; when reversing the display will show the red, yellow color (like Guna's ones) ?

I only got one set of balls and even then one of em is a little wonky. If you catch them, then I've gone none left and will be walking around like a ball-less chicken.

My E39 didnt have PDC but has a MID.

The E39 literature says that the BMW PDC only gives off an audible warning, there is no mention of a visual warning or distance indication. That's the reason why I did not comment on it.

From what I know the MID can only display one color - amber characters on black background.

From the literature, the On-Board Display (5" screen) will display Sat Nav, TV, Radio/Stereo, Telephone, OBC and Auxiliary Heater. No mention of PDC. This 5" screen is NOT the iDrive screen.

My E46 was fitted with after-market reverse sensors. But the E46 I've seen with BMW PDC only has audible warning.

My E90 has PDC and MID but there is only audible warning, no visual or distance indication on the MID. Like Davidtch.

The only color coded graphical display of PDC that I've seen, are on the iDrive equipped cars like the E60 or E9X series. Bro Guna has said that this is what he has and Bro Kev has also said the same statement as mine.

Since the E39 and E46 are not equipped with iDrive, there are no such feature as color coded graphical display of PDC.

HAHAHA...I'm still rolling on the floor...Bronx,leave Saat's balls alone:laugh::laugh::laugh:..I think what Bronx meant was he doesn't catch your drift..:elefant::elefant:

damn! it's funny....ok,ok,yeah I've got what bro Saat mentioned and I'm yet to see any other version:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I'm outta here for a good laugh

Niggers? There's none here.

Looks like you catch no balls from Bros Kev, Guna, Bimmerholic and Davidtch, too.

Cheers
