FRONT BRAKE DIY for 320D (N47) 2010 Manufact

i am getting fond of doing this DIY thingy.. as i indulge more, i know better bout my UDM.. hope my write up will inspire more DIY in this forum.. so, here is my DIY on Replacing Front Brake Pads and Sensor.. Happy DIY friends :4:

obviously removing the wheel nuts using a ratchet is not right.. since i have done it in the past, i tried using ratchet again.. this time i was unlucky as my extension bar twisted and broke into two pieces.. talk about poor tool workmanship.. so, i took i had to drive all the way to Kuantan and bought a proper wheel nut tee (19mm to be precise).. using a tee 19mm socket is easier to remove the wheel nuts.. i suggest you do the same too..

once the wheels are removed, you need to remove the anti-rattling clip.. to remove them, you need two flat screw driver.. in the picture above, the right flat screw driver will be pushing to the left and the left flat screw driver will be prying outwards to your body.. taadaaa.. now you have removed the anti-rattling clip..

before removing the old pads, you will need to press the solenoid back in fully.. to do this, you will require a G Clamp size 8inch (minimum).. clamp the old pads and the clipper together.. slowly tightened the G Clamp.. by doing so, you will be pressing the brake solenoids in.. keep tightening the clam until you can go no more.. just be cautious and not go too crazy tightening the G Clamp.. now the solenoids are fully pressed inwards, remove the G Clamp..

removing the plastic cap which houses the retaining bolts..

new, locate two plastic caps.. pry them out using flat head screw driver.. then, use a 7mm size allen key to remove 2pcs of retaining bolts for the clipper.. notice these retaining bolts are fairly easy to be loosen.. so, just be sure to tightened like wise during installation.. these bolts are dirty, clean them before you put them back..

wheel, anti-rattling clip and retaining bolts removed at this moment.. now, remove the outer pad first and the inner pad.. there is a clip holding the inner pad to the solenoid.. use a flat head screw driver to pry them apart with minimum force..

use a brake cleaner to clean the calipper, solenoid, retaining bolts and anti rattling clips.. honestly i feel, any brand of brake cleaner will do the job.. no preference..

this is how visually the old brake pad looks versus the new brake pad.. both are original.. the old pads have 700km remaining according to the OBD which i think is inaccurate.. nevertheless, i wanted to do the pads replacement early..

reverse the whole process up to fixing back the wheels.. where is the brake pad wear sensor? its on the front passenger side wheel..

repeat the same for the left side of the brake pad, except you will need to remove the old sensor and replace it with the new sensor.. you can opt for not to replace them and do good old fashion visual inspection.. its your choice..

press a tab on the connector and pull them apart.. now reconnect iw with new brake wear sensor and snap it in the juction/ terminal box back..

Note: please make sure the brake fluid reservoir does not everflow when you push the brake solenoids in..remove some if you have too..

BRAKE FLUID FLUSHING DIY for 320D (N47) 2010 Manufact

brake oil flushing is one of the preventive maintenance.. it can be done easily by one person or two people.. what it takes is just these few step and you will have fresh brake fluids in your brake system.. happy DIY guy & gals :4:

the location of you brake fluid reservoir in on the driver side of the engine compartment.. remove the top cap.. you can opt to siphon the fluid in the reservoir or flush it through the system.. in this case, i am too lazy to siphon so i choose to flush the brake fluid through the bleed nipples..

if you check any write-up for brake fluid flushing, there will always be disputes on sequence of flushing.. in this case, i have choose 'flush the fluid which is the furthest from the brake master pump and finish with the nearest' philosophy..

you will need a catch bottle which can be easily made out of used 500ml mineral bottle with two holes on the cap.. one for the fluid in and the other as a breather.. as for the hose, you can use an aquarium hose.. nothing fancy, all cheap and disposable for your catch bottle DIY :4:

now, locate the bleed nipple on your right rear passenger brake clipper.. it should be somewhere behind the brake clipper.. you will need a 9mm wrench to loosen the bleed nipple.. if it is stuck, you will need to spray some anti-rust penatrant and let it soak for a while before you can loosen the bleed nipple..

put in the wrench first on to the bleed nipple and followed by the flush hose which is connected to the catch bottle..

get ready with your fresh brake fluid somewhere near the reservoir.. 1liter should be more than sufficient for this DIY.. CAUTION: NEVER LET THE BRAKE RESERVOIR EMPTY

loosen the brake nipple and start pumping the brakes.. it should take 40pumps to ALMOST empty the brake fluid reservoir.. now, replenish with new/ fresh brake fluid.. and continue pumping.. in my case, it took 30pumps before fresh fluids are observed coming out of the bleed nipple.. once, fresh brake fluid is seen oozing out of the brake nipple, you need to tightened the brake nipple (soonest possible) before air seeps in.. air in your brake hose is NO-NO.. it causes spongy sensation during braking..

next, replenish the brake fluid reservoir and continue with the left rear passenger bleed nipple.. you will need 30pumps before fresh fluids are observed coming out of the bleed nipple.. tightened the bleed nipple + replenish the brake fluid reservoir..

then, continue to the front left passenger bleed nipple.. this the you will need an 11mm wrench.. repeat loosening + pumping + tightening + replenishing..

finally, proceed with the front right driver bleed nipple..repeat loosening + pumping + tightening + replenishing..

yeay, now you have fresh brake fluids in you brake hoses/ pipes/ reservoir.. :top:

CAUTION: NEVER TURN ON YOUR ENGINE DURING FLUSHING (dont ask me how i know this :4:)
