Hi guys. Was wondering if you could tell me what the differences were between the ori and replica rims.Mainly wanting to know : Are Ori rims lighter in weight overall?- replied 1

Better build quality as well so in the unfortunate event of an accident, will be able to withstand greater impact...

Of course, the argument would be that because the replicas break more readily, wouldn't they absorb away some of the impact force? Kinda like a crumple zone? Sifus?

Don't know about absorbing the impact but an easily cracked rim ain't a good deal at all....

Go for ori, much safer in the long run. Weight, strength and better quality material used!

Thanks for the replies guys. Agreed on the points mentioned.

On the note of Ori's being lighter in weight, is it significant ? Reason im asking is i feel that my car has gone really sluggish after i changed from 16s to 18s. (and i guess that its because of the extra weight)

And so for the 2nd set of rims, im trying to decide if i should go for Ori's pure-ly for the weight reason. Does it justify?

In terms of styling, i think its ok to get replicas, cause you can always afford to change styles when the one you have is a bit too popular (ie. AC 4s). You would lose less i feel.

But thanks again. Some help on my question please.

Haiyah... you play bigger rims, mesti lah berat...more besi mah!! :p

Don't know about the weight difference, I guess it depends on the type of rims you get and if you are still going for the 18'. You will be able to feel some difference between the ori and the rep.

I guess 16s are the best afterall. But then. you know.... its the look. hah!

Thanks though... jsut wanted to confirm my thoughts.

I just went and check out some rims. Take a look at both the replicas and originals.

Just from first glance I notice the following on Breyton Imagine and Hamman HM2:

1. Breyton Imagine Original - Deep Dish Lip in Chrome
1a. Replica - Polished stainless steel dish and not as deep as original.

2. Hamman HM2 Original - The Dish is deeper
2a. Replicas - Shallow dish plus the bird logo is slightly different but can tell straight away. It is a sure giveaway sign.

Build quality is pretty good. It has improved from many years ago where they are prone to cracking.

There aren't any replicas for Hamman PG2 or PG2 (2 pieces with studs). Not sure if they exist but I was told by a few shops that they dun carry it.
Guess have to go for originals if you are looking for the not so popular styles.

While the replicas are very tempting, price wise....
IMHO, it's not worth taking the risk. After all, so much is riding on your wheels

The entire weight of your vehicle is on those four pieces of metal, AND YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON THEM.

Your loss of acceleration is probably due to the additional weight, coupled with the increase in rolling resistance from a slightly larger diameter.

I've been using 17in replica ACs for the past 3 months, joined u guys to the drive down to JB and even went to many outstation trips, gone through deep potholes etc etc. So far so good! Not even a dent on the rims. They're heavy but sure is built tough. You'd be surprised that original rims and certain body parts/accessories now for BMW & Mercedes are also made in China and then sent back to Germany for final process and packaging. Since many companies have manufacturing factories relocated in China, China has been producing very good quality products in recent times. So not suprising why the quality for replicas have also improved.
