Guys [gals?],Your opinion is solicited on the following:
  • 215/55 R16 RM470.00 Goodyear Eagle F1 Year 2008
  • 215/55 R16 RM400.00 Falken STI 15 Year 2006
  • 205/55 R16 RM280.00 Dunlop F1 Year 2008
  • Value for money/price
  • Comfort
  • Durability
  • Performance
I kinda like the Falken [bummer that its a 2006 rubber and at that price]. Any recommendation [other make/model such as Conti, Bridgestone etc. with price range perhaps?] from you guys? Would appreciate any tips too. Thanks in advance for your opinion/recommendation/tip.BlackCat

Bro..

If you are a kind of fast driver, always give priority to durability and performance, and hence your safety is rest assured.

I recommend you choose it right by the speed rating classifications, i.e. T,V.W,V etc and surely the price varies and more expensive for high rating speed.(http://www.dunloptires.com/dunlop/r...el=328xi&option=Sedan&size=205/55R16&zipCode=)

Based on my experience, I have been using both Dunlop and Continental for both my E46 and X5. My E46 runs comfortably on Conti and X5 very firms and quiter on Dunlop. If your car uses run-on-flat tyres, I recommend Dunlop (with better side wall and higher loading).

Both Dunlop and Conti are generally higher price compare to Goodyear. (I never tried Falken b4)

Thanks for your response bro...

I am often on Goodyear Eagle F1s for my E46 18s and I do travel often to JB. Having said this, the 18s are nowadays quite steep in price [due to bad exchange rates] and I do notice that it is difficult to get 'freshly' made ones from Germany. Too often, they come about >2 years old [+/-]

The Goodyear Eagle F1s for 215/55 R16 [year 2008] is about RM470.00 with my local tyre shop [before neg].*

* You may be wondering why R16s - I am switching back to stock 16s and offloading my Bryeton Magic 18s.

Why switching down to 16"? comfort issue? Your wheel looks pretty good(except the spare tyre haha)...

Shhhhh... setting up for the treasure hunt!!! If using the 18s, I'll have to re-calibrate the odo. Hence putting on stds.

Having an odo reading on 18s is purely guess work [unless calibration is done properly] thus playing havoc when reading tulips. Been there... trust me.

Not trying to be extremely competitive here... just do not want to end up lost in Gua Musang instead of Cameron H/L! LOLs

Know any tyre shops with good offers...? Quite keen for the Falken or the GY F1s 215/55.

That is not bad at all...

So how much would a 215/55 R16 cost and location please... need all the info possible before I decide.

Thanks for your response bro...

What can I say... LOLs

Are you intending to stick with the 15s for long? If so, its better to re-calibrate the odo.

Trawl/ask around the forum... am sure there is bound to be some info...

wow.. that critical eh? can share how wud a non-calibrated odo affect the treasure hunt? can it be anyway resolved with a rm500 gps unit?

Just pullin' someone's legs there hahaha

But on a serious note...

GPS works fine if you know your final destination. It does not measure your physical distance traveled [as it measures your position over time sequence/triangulation]

Going for THs and reading tulips is a different ball game altogether bro...

Where an error of 0.5 km and taking an earlier or a later left/right turn might have you having lunch at Tapah or breakfast at Kuantan the next day...

i see.. got a fren really into open THs on a frequent basis.. looks fun, though taxing.. he asked me to join his team.. he said not easy, rather intelligent 'sports'?

i think the hand-held units can do pretty much anything, distance traveled, including 'plotting' your route, gradient, etc.. like doing jungle trekking or cycling..?

Yup, I do agree with you to some extend. But, I'd rather have a manual odo for THs.

Why don't you join us for this TH. It'll be fun...

Now back to the topic at hand... Any recommendations on the R16 tyre sizes [215/45s?], brands/models you'd like to share. Thanks.

i tried using the GPS before for TH. Wanted to program the route some more.. Forget it. Good old tulips and odo work well especially when you "missed" just one turn or one tulip. Habissss...

Get a handheld terratrip, bro! (Refer to : http://www.terratrip.com/home.htm) That's what we did when I recee during treasure hunts and rallies! Moreover its easy to install. Use the tulips and the terratrip and you won't go wrong. Also your co-driver should be able to handle this and yet contribute to the answers. :) Have fun!

Nope, sorry can't help u there. That is one of the reasons I am reverting to 16s. There are w/s that claims that they are able to do it, but I doubt it. So in my case... R16s. Hehehe... Sowey... but try asking the others in the Forum. Some might shed some light on the issue and point you to the right direction. Good luck... :top:

i see.. i see.. good info.. but, how u know the odo is calibrated for 16''? how u know the odo is even calibrated at all? i was more into solving the problem, hence stupid ideas like dat.. sorry.. hehe..

well, u know better..

for 16'', i'd recommend:
1. toyo t-1r - good performance in dry n wet. a bit noisy when worn
2. bridgestone adrenaline - very good dry, good in wet. good overall, but pricey
3. hankook s-1 evo - as good as t1-r. noisy too.

gud luck with the TH! :top:
