I know this feeling. My brother got rid of his X5 becoz of this. He went thru hell searching for very costly help.
:24:

Hello Azmi_bmw777, could you share with us "all those kind(s) of hell" that your brother went through (as much as you can remember) and the hell costs as well? It may assist us to solve the matter and then we will post the "heavens" of it for the benefit of other X fivers here.......thanks

What is your current mileage?

my current milleage is 66k on d moment... so disappointed for my x5... but i love d ride.... anyone can chare what to do....
bimmerback i am having this issue when d car is cold... need to b warm up then is fine...

Hi Alex, i would suggest you send it in for a diagnosis. It wont cost much just to plug it in, at least it will clarify any doubts and clear your mind wondering what could be wrong. If you're in pj or kl, there are lots of good workshops with the right tools available which can help you.

hi pratt.. thanks for d advise... but i from sarawak kuching... is hard to find a good workshop here... so sad...

Went for a diagnosis but the diagnosis was unable to detect the problem. Mechanic said when cold the oil may not be able to "push" the gears..... have to dismantle the whole transmission and do an overhaul it seems...sigh

Any sifus' out there can pop in a thought or two? Especially those who has very good knowledge on auto transmissions.....

There were other beemer users who had that kind of problems before, after changing the transmission oil, filter and pan, the symtoms went away. Read it in other bimmer forums.

Finally my ride run like a champ... hehe... d mechanic change d auto oil n filter solve d problem... doing my oil service they found out my water radiator spare tank got leaking so need to change it... bleeding again...

Bravo Bro Alex5,
Interestingly, this problem on my car is not so serious anymore, especially after a good warm up. The auto oil was changed the moment I got my car but not the filter. I will replace the filter and see if it will completely solve it.

Really good to hear you guys managed to get the problem fixed on your rides :) drive them in good health bro. Enjoy the X.

Surprised that you did not replace the clogged up filter. Very strange indeed.

I was surprised too. So I called for a detailed parts changed list in their system and the filter was replaced indeed, together with its gasket. I was misinformed.

most likely a clogged filter...like what herbert mentioned...

have no idea wats clogged filter?? haha just know pass to a trusted specialist... but i try to ask from forumers for similar symtom i having to make sure didnt get cheated by them... haha..

I sure do hope that the problem can be solved just by replacing the filter. This would be the easiest remedy. But a clogged filter could cause the shifting of gears to be harsh and even shifting of the gearstick to be difficult.

This situation is different in my case - let me explain further - in Drive, it does not only feel but it is completely in a state of neutral i.e. gearless even if you depress the accelerator. I think this a problem in the autobox itself and not merely a clogged filter.

Using a scanner did not reveal any fault. Therefore it is mechanical. The only thing to do now is wait for it to get worst.
