Need some help...just got an e46

hi guys...i just got an e46 year 99 318i. The problem is, everytime when i go down hill, my gear shift will drop and the rev shoots a lil higher then usual and makes the car jerk...is it the gearbox problem or the gearbox fluid that has to be changed.secondly, the aircond from inside is making some whistling sound. Its still cold. when i turn on full blast, theres no more sound. it comes and go...Do i need to re-oil anything or izit the blower inside that has a problem. and lastly, the interior roof...The cloth is popping out. Where do i get this fixed? wheres the cheapest workshop around klang valley to get all this fixed.Im new...sorry and mind me. Thanks

gearbox is not a problem. Proton Toyota et cetera also do that.

Thanks for the help and advises...but the car really jerk quite badly when it auto shift downhill by itself....aside from that, any idea on the aircond whistling sound problem? somehow it gets louder day by day.

I dont think the sound is whistling.. It should like squeaking sound like criket..

Your blower bearing is slightly worn out. I have rectify mine by oiling the bearing and applying grease on both of the bearings.

Pertaining to your GB, If your mileage clocked more than 80K, it is advisable to change the Hydraulic fluid and the filter.

Your car is about 8 years old now. Advisable to have a complete check on the rubber hose, mounting busing, GB mounting, ball joint, radiator housing & etc by a good mechanic.

Expect to pay about RM800. The GB oil itself will cost about RM70 X 5 bottles. Plus filter, gasket seal and labour cost.

If you are into DIY, then it not so tedious. cos you have open alot of thing to get to the blower.

Went up to Genting few weeks back, and as I was declining my gearbox has the same jerk as the gear shifts down. Mechanic says its fine.

Careful when u want to change your gb oil/atf. make sure u go to the right wshop who really knows about BMW gb - GM and ZF type. Both use diff ATF. Wrong ATF will ruin your GB. Also, if u never change ATF, and its already past 100k, might as well not do it.

I would think that BMW has better gearboxes than that. I have a 325 and my gearbox should be pretty much similar to a 318. So far I have experienced those downshift jerks (i believe it was 3rd to 2nd gear) twice only. Both times it went off after a day or so. Otherwise it should be smooth.

So if your mechanic says it is fine, I suggest seeking a 2nd opinion. Then again, it also depends what you mean by "jerk". Is it a slight jerk or a really car shaking one?

your ecu is telling your gearbox to downshift from 3rd gear to 2nd as u didnt apply your brake and going downhill too fast when u r making the turn towards chin swee temple...............:top:
