Need the opinion and suggestion from our UDM Sifus and forumers on the HIDs usagefor the fogs and headlights ...:wink:1) What type of the CCFL allowed to be used 4300k,6500k,7500k or ???2) Is it easy to do the DIY for the HID installation3) Any problems encounter after installed the HID, interms of - short of battery life span? - frequent change the bulb?4) How much the cost spend for both fog and headlight?5) Anyone experienced get caught and ticket given due to HID installed?Open for any suggestion ...

1. CCFL? You mean for angel eyes? I don't think there is an "allowed" limit. For HID, JPJ does not allow use of ANY HID aftermarket kit.
2. I did the DIY HID install for my e36 in one afternoon. Together with the angel eyes DIY. I rate an 8/10 if you have the tools etc
3. No problems except it is a bit unhelpful during rain / foggy nights. Well, to me anyways. Never had any brightness issues with the stock lights.
4. I only installed for my main lights - RM350 DIY. For high beam + fog lights probably all in RM1050.
5. Nope, not in the one year plus that I've used.
Personally I think HID is over rated. Life will be equally sweet without them. If you have to have them, use it for main lights enough-lah...

No lar, HID is not over rated.. it depend on the Kelvin (colour). Most people prefer 8000K for white light effect. However, this will only look nice but cannot penetrate rain drop. That why it sucks when it rains.

Another thing is the focussing of the HID light. Due to the different focal length of the H1 bulb as compared to HID bulb, most of the light intensity is dispersed and render it useless in lighting up the road ahead. In addition, it will cause the glare and blind the oncoming vehicle.

Bro Jarance,
Your e46 using the ori xenon angel eye set or you using retro fit HID? Any idea how much the ori xenon set costs?

Hi Vinode/Jarance, thanks for the info... :top:

Not sure lah.. Have not even open the bonnet yet.. Will do this weekend... :listen:

Check last Sunday.. Yup my low beam is HID factory fitted.

There is a Xenon on the embross of the outer rim of the projector lenz.

Also marking on top of the lamp 25,000 V Danger sign.. However, cannot find where is the ballast located.

Colour is about 4700K (slight yellowish)

High beam is standard H7 bulb..

No angel eye installed yet.. (sad.. but will upgrade later.. ;-) )

Your e46 is still "new" is it? No wonder... what year is it? I thought after a certain year all e46 come with xenon standard?

Bro Vinode and Jarance, thanks for the great info.
I tends to do HID for my fogs at first.

No need to HID.. Just go for white H1 bulb.. those that are blue colour coated. cheaper and easier to DIY. :listen:

Just be careful with the ballast as water might get splash to the bumper.

Hopefully nothing happen...
