N42 to replace M43 for E36

e46 318i 2.0l - N42, 142bhp Valvetronic - 16 valve, 4 cyclinderse46 318 1.9l - M43, 118bhp - 8 valve, 4 cyclindersPrice of N42 is almost the same as M43 or M44 or M52 from Chop Shop.Found an excellent N42 almost new as recon Japanese E46 was seriously "bang' from behind and the owner has replaced the E46 engine to 2.8cc 6 potter when the car is repaired.Can E36 use the N42 ? Will the E36 gearbox accept the engine? Will the car's mount accept the engine without much change? Good and fair advice please. Thanks

you would need the complete set for the conversion if you're serious about doing it.. The wire harness might be integrated so you may have to use the gearbox for the N42..

U might be the first to attempt this conversion here in Malaysia. Go ahead and let us know the progress..

So it means it is easier and cheaper to have a M52 2.5 or 2.8 engine in for my ride?

I am just seeking advice.. I'm taking fellow Sifu advice seriously..

Just too tempting with the N42 engine as my friend is reserving it for me at RM2000 only.. If I dont take he will let it go to other E46 owners. Thats the reason why I start this thread... considering I can sell my M43 for RM2500 as it is still very good. My investment for upgrade is cool!!

I have test drive the 120 in Brunei ..... love the city drive...but I still love E46 328i for highway as the power is so so much more.. plus it is cheaper by RM130K
