hi guys. One day about a year ago i faced a starting problem in my car. the battery was good. everything ok. so i push the car and start it. after that no problem...faced the same problem today. but i use a spanner to knock the starter few times and the car can start. ist the starter carbon brush wear out? if it is so, can get a replacement for the carbon brush?....little help here. :)

can get the carbon brush from the dealers?

send to the alternator/starter/motor repair specialist.. Alternatively, can a used starter... Bought mine before for RM200 few years back... Now not sure how much...

relay?... where to add.? u mean pull the direct wire from battery? and the switch wire use the existing power wire?

btw, does the carbon brush available from dealers...? i've called bav auto sg. they dont have it.

any brush should do, can be modified to fit. If got soldering iron, few spanners and some free time and willingness to DIY can be done at home. Carbons are around rm10 each or less if not mistaken.

hi
any advice where to get the carbon brush?
couldnt find any from some bmw parts dealers which i called.

Er..rr..r.. till now the car starts fine. no problem. but afraid it'll give trouble soon.

u have to open up the starter to get a sample and then to find it at the electric/eletronic part shops... better to get the starter specialist to do it, unless u know what you're dabbling with..

Then u should know where to get the brushes lah.. then again, u have to open up then only know what sizes are the carbon brushes in the starter...

Have you checked whether the key ignition barrel is the culprit??? I had this problem before as the part has worn out a little so when the car is parked under the sun for too long, it'll have problem starting...

My solution?? DIY Starter button.... hahaha... Key still need to be at the 'full on' position for the start button to function... And I hid the button so only those who knew where it is can start the car... Cos no matter how hard you twist the key, it won't activate the starter.... ;)

i used to have the same problem like fabian and did the same thing also........the only difference is i am not a DIY type, so i got to say hello to my neighbourhood starter specialist........knows him more than 20 yrs already....since his late father ! :top:
